LASIK eye surgery: experiences and doc recommendations

Dear all,

I am considering LASIK to correct my near-sightedness and have met with a doctor who has a lot of experience and very good results. He assured me risks are very very low, but before I go ahead with this I'm doing my own research.

Has anyone had LASIK in this area (neighboring France as well)?

Are you happy with the results? Have you had any complications?

Has anyone with dry eyes had LASIK - how did that affect the dry eyes: same, worse or better?

How much did you pay for both eyes and what was included in that price?

What doctor did you use and would you recommend her/him?

Thanks,

Julie

Hi Julie,

I had LASEK done in the UK so I cant give any local recommendations and it is a different procedure but I had dry eyes for about a year afterwards which was okay with the drops but waking up each morning with dry eyes was not great.

My sight wasnt bad it was something like -1.5 on each eye but the difference was, and still is, amazing and I would recommend laser surgery for sure.  I think that with LASIK the surgery is less severe and your recovery and results are much faster.

I had mine done over 2 years ago now and so Im sure there will be new bells and whistles you can have done but give me a shout if you want any more info.

Cheers,

Colin

Get the tailored treatment, i.e. WaveFront or similar. You don't want to skimp on the treatment regarding your eyes, as you can reduce the risk of experiencing halos around bright objects and 'stars' at night, when driving.

Hi there,

I got Lasik done 11 years ago and i am still happy.  Though I did not do it in Switzerland but in USA.  At the time I think it was worth 5000 USD for both eyes, including several check ups over the next 12 months.

My eyes were a bit dry for a couple of weeks, but as much as they got after wearing contacts for a couple of hours, so not so bad.

I have never regretted it, and my vision is still perfect after all these years, even better than most of my friends with their glasses / contacts!

However, my boss had it done a couple of months ago, and it did cut correctly, so they had to let it heal and then redo it now.  He is the only person I know who ever had a problem.

Good luck,

Celine

I had it done in Summer of last year in California, 2,200 USD....I checked the surgeon out he was highly recommended with no litigations. All info was published on the local government board. 64,000 operations.

My eyes were very bad, I had dry eyes too, wearing contacts was making me tired and was such a pain. Since the operation, my eyes are not so dry, I did not need to lubricate after the initial normal period where one uses the eye drops as your lens heals.

The only thing you may find, is night vision. This takes a year to heal as your lens smoothes in healing. I have no problems with vision and enjoy perfect eye sight.

Wish you the best and do your homework. After the ash settles go on a holiday to the USA and get it done for less than here possibly. The UK is also more cost effective. What I prefer is not prices but the fact you can check up on how well reviewed surgeons are and any outstanding malpractice suits.

Best wishes
