We were taken out last evening to a lovely Italian restaurant 'La Finestra'. The staff were exceptionally attentive and charming, speaking fluent Italian, French and English.
However for us poor folks from the southern side of the lake, the cost was very very high. Is CHF46.-- for a main meal normal? The food was really wonderful but nevertheless......

Being of scottish descent Sheila, I would baulk at paying that for a main... I would still be put off even if I wasn't tight...

Sheila - if the staff were "exceptionally attentive and charming" you got your CHF46 worth - ten times over!
I went to Le Deck recently (in Chexbres), paid 30 CHF for 3 drinks and got the rudest, least attentive and least charming staff, ever. They seem to think that the view warrants the waitresses to be sully,slow, lazy, miserable and insulting - I will never go back - EVER!!!
When we left and said goodbye - the waitresses had the cheek to do the old "Service!" - to which I always want to reply "well, actually, no, it's wasn't "service" really, was it....."
I even wrote to the management to complain, but they couldn't even bother to reply.
So CHF 46 for good food and service sounds like a bargain.

it's expensive for a main dish. But you know what: if it was great and the service was great, then I think paying a few less frances for an inferior exprience is not worth it. You could have saved CHF 10 at a different place, but having a great time is worth way more than that.
