Learning Drums!

Dear All,

Can anyone guide me where I can learn to play drums (English speaking teacher). Also, would I need to buy a drum set before starting to learn or I can depend on the institute for the same where I can learn and practice both.

Thanks a lot of for any info that you can provide.

Regards,

Ajay

I'm afraid that I don't have a drum tutor recommendation for you, but I can reassure you that you don't need a drum kit to get started.  In fact, it's generally held that drums are the worst thing to learn with as they are too forgiving.  You need to get hold of some sticks and a practice pad, which is typically a wedge-shaped piece of wood with a rubber pad on top of it.  When you do get a full kit you will find that you will need to put pads over the skins in order to practice properly as well.  Unless, of course, you can afford a decent electronic kit, in which case they will serve both purposes.

Of course, a lot depends on what type of drumming you want to learn.  If you just want to learn a basic "thump, crash, thump, crash" to play along with friends or whatever then you can get started with actual drums.  You'll find it more rewarding to start with "proper" drumming though, and it's best to get straight into the habit of doing it from sheet music.

Good luck with the neighbours!
