Leaving apartment 1 month before leaving Switzerland for good - what to do

Hello all, 


I am considering leaving Switzerland permananetly - I am asking advice before I take a final decision. I am aware that I need to inform the controle des habitants and that they will give me some attestation that I can then attach to the letter I write to cancel my insurance etc.  However I have a somewhat unique situation and would appreciate advice. If I decide to leave I will leave my apartment on April 1 and then stay with a friend (in a different comune) for 1 month before I leave the country permanently. Should I inform the commune for April 1 or for April 31st (or whatever date my flight is in the end)? Am I obliged to register in the new commune for 1 month?

Hi Natasha


You might have some difficulty giving notice on 31st April, as there isn't one.... April ends on 30th every year.
