Legal question: photos of receipts

Hi everyone

I am hoping some lawyers out there can answer this question that's been nagging me for a while.

Can you use photos of receipts as a legal proof of purchase ? Somebody told me that you always have to keep original receipts but in this day and age, I find that surprising. I'd rather have everything digital in my accounting.

Keep in mind I'm talking about Swiss laws and if you can actually point me to an actual law that goes for/against this claim, that'd be great.

Thanks a bunch

You should always keep the originals, if you think, you might need them.  I doubt the extra workflow of digitalizing them saves any time. It could work as a backup, though.

http://www.frc.ch/   The Consumer Federation of Swiss Romande

The experts at this site will know, but I think you must join.

A few years ago I helped someone with an airline insurance claim.  She did not have most of the original receipts but she did have lots of credit card records.  It worked but another company might not have accepted the claim.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I had already checked the government website to no avail (hay in a needlestack) but will give the FRC a try.

Thanks again and if you have more info, please let me know.
