Less Expensive Meat in Switzerland

Hello! If you are interested in getting good meat at a better price, I come to Lausanne several times a month with bio meat in vacuum-sealed packages, transported in cold bags. I buy the same day or day before I come to Lausanne. I bring 4 kilos at a time, the packages are 2 filets at about 200g total per package.

Filet de boeuf, tournedos, poultry (though I can't put whole chickens in vacuum packaging :OP) etc. I have been doing this for several months just for friends but thought it might interest others.

I buy from a bio butcher and bring the receipt and a copy of their certificate to verify.

Meat comes from France in the north of Auvergene.

It's a pretty casual operation, just me, so I don't have online order forms and so on. Everything is arranged by email (all info on the site).

Anyway, let m know if you have any questions!

Not to rain on your parade, but  the best filet of beef is from uruguay, and usually sells for 45-60 sfr. per kilo. you can find it from time to time at coop or aldi. buy in quantity and freeze.

you have to try it to believe it!!

Hi there! Thank you, but they only have it from time to time. I priced the filet at coop & migros and I was astounded by the prices! Money Mouth The Terra Suisse stuff was 125.- !

But that is good to know coop has it at a good price from time to time. I guess I am more looking to supply people who maybe don't have time to track the deals at the grocery store, who want a regular supply at a price still below the average of what they can regularly find here. I will see how it goes, and thank you for letting us know about the Uruguyan stuff. Is it bio? Certainly not local for those who prefer that hehe.

you're absolutely right, sfr.125 per kilo is real sticker shock as we say. that's like $75 a pound!! tell that to our usa frieds and they would think there is a decimal point error!. when i do see uruguayan filet in coop or aldi, i buy about 2 kgs. slice it in 150.gr pieces and freeze them. it keeps easily for 6 months. i still have some from my last purchase. you can try it if you like :-).

it certainly beats US beef which is full of hormones and not bio for sure.

Ugh the prices I saw at coop and migro were between 90 and 127 CHF per kilo, and the meat was not labeled as bio. Rather 'natural' and 'the animals are treated well.' hmm...

The stuff I can get comes from the north of Auvergne where the animals frolic in a forest with unicorns apparently haha well at least that is what they tell me! I have seen pictures but have never been there (yet!).

I still haven't figured ut how to put a whole Bresse chicken in a vacuum-seal package. I haven't found a big enough one yet. :P So if anyone has any hints! Besides cutting it up, as these chickens are for roasting whole.

you may want to place the whole chicken in a roasting bag ( they do have them here)

with oil, garlick, herbs and spices and roast in the oven for about an hour.

the best beef in france is said to be from charolais.

"To many tastes, Charolais is some of the most mouthwatering, perfectly marbled, meltingly tender beef anywhere. It's juicy and buttery without being fatty, spreading an irresistible nutty flavor across the tongue and palate, with a spicy, grassy aroma. Connoisseurs compare it with other premium European beef varieties, such as Scottish Angus or Tuscan Chianina, though it is often more tender and subtly gamy than either. Its exceptional flavor and wholesomeness made Charolais beef one of the first French delicacies to earn the country's coveted Label Rouge for certified top-quality meat."
