sorry I am usually NOT a negative person, but today is labour day, il 1Maggio, Vappu, call it however you want, and while everyone in everyother country is out of the office doing very 1st of may-like activity we are here working.
So Here i start the thread, what would you be doing if you were in your home country/town/canton ... whatever .. for the 1st of may???
ME: I will be in Rome, where it usually is sunny in the morning and rains in the afternoon, waking up at the crack of dawn to go and get a good spot in Piazza S.Giovanni for the famous 1Maggio Concert! A free Rock concert for Labour day with loads of small italian rock/soul/funk band and loads of famous rock italian artist too and some international names from lunch time till midnight - Rock and Roll!!
Or: if i couldn't make it there I will be pic nic-ing with my friends listening to the concert on the radio or on TV.

I'd be recovering from one of the craziest parties of the year. Weather permitting this would most likely include a nice, long picnic in the huge park by the sea in Helsinki, all the people in their silly highschool graduation hats and university student overalls, balloons and serpentine and champagne all over the place...
Argh, why don't we at least have the day off in Geneva? Anyone up for a general strike next year? :)
Having said that it's +7'C in Helsinki right now so wouldn't mind doing all the things I'd do in Finland but somewhere with an actually NICE climate.. :)

i'd still be working... for most of the world, this is not a holiday. try having to work on Christmas day cuz the 25th is NOT a public holiday in Japan, nor for the billions of people if you consider all the people working in India and China. now THAT was a shock to my system when I went thru my first year there. :)

That's one reason why I wouldn't go to Japan to work. You guys never seem to get a break! :)

Although CERN has an official holiday it seems, the hard core physicists keep on working ... but probably only because we all need to present some stuff in a meeting tomorrow, pffff
