Dorénavant, les nom et adresse des détenteurs de véhicules (Index-autos) sont accessibles par sms au numéro 939 (modalités).

  • Prix de la prestation : 2 F par renseignement abouti
  • Limitation du nombre : 5 demandes par jour et pour le même numéro appelant
  • Disponibilité : 7/7 jours, entre 07h00 et 22h00

Les détenteurs et détentrices de plaques genevoises qui ne souhaitent pas que leurs données soient accessibles1) sont invités à remplir le formulaire (PDF - 30Ko) prévu à cet effet et à l'adresser au Services des Automobiles et de la Navigation. Les demandes téléphoniques ne seront pas prises en considération

1) sous réserve des dispositions des articles 125 et 126 de l'Ordonnance fédérale réglant l'admission à la circulation routière

Thanks for posting this Free!  I saw an article in yesterday's Le Matin mentioning this service (for stalkers?)!   :blink:

 I'm going to let my friends know.  I suppose the other cantons have a similar confidentiality form?

I read about this in the paper this morning. The SMS service only applies to Geneva, although in fact in all cantons you can find out a car owner's name by making a request (by mail or at the counter).

Personally I think this is an invasion of privacy: the moment you get into your car, your name and address are on display for anyone who cares to look. And in practice this has greater potential for dangerous abuse than, say, public video surveillance cameras. I'm surprised that this is legal. And I wonder how long it will be until a case of road rage translates into something more serious...

This is purely local and other cantons may have other directives. And if you think this is creepy, you should know that there are cantons whee your can get a copy of your neighbour's tax declaration upon a simple request (Not in Geneva)!

WOW! I never knew about this system...and via sms??? I wonder what anyone is gaining from this....it's a total invasion of privacy.....

One cannot even obtain the name of the passenger sitting next to you in a plane (even in Switzerland)....but yet, here in the canton of GVA, all it's going to take is a little road rage, an unstable person, and next thing you know, you have a stalker calling you up....have I been watching too many movies?

I suppose nobody at the Services de navigation owns a car....or at least...not under their name.

Be afraid....be very afraid.......:w00t:

My first thought on reading this was that it would be useful for reporting hit-and-runs, and asking that the guilty parties be charged.



What an imagination you guys have! :P I think stalking might be a lot rarer than we suspect...

You don't need a name and address to report a hit and run unless you are making a citizen's arrest -- you simply need the plate number...:)

Never mind, then. But, in regards to something someone else posted, why would anyone want to see their neighbors' tax returns? Why would any state administration even think it was a good idea to have these available? Money is generally such a touchy subject...

I just tried this service for a plate number in Bern and it works there also....
