Don't let your basic camera hold you back! Get out there and start shooting!

FYI, I'm posting this because a number of Glocals members have spoken to me about needing a better camera before they can start taking pictures. I say "not at all; start now!"
Oh, and for the US iPhone owners, there's an easter-egg for you in the vid at 9m 55s.

I meant the worst CAMERA ever
I'm taking a class in Zürich on Sunday that deals with lighting techniques. One of the workshops at this school covers the creation of your own studio lighting using consumer-grade lamps. In the era of Photoshop, having a perfect and precisecolor temperature from your lights isn't really necessary. I like his floodlamps from Lowe's (similar to Jumbo).

yep! Plus all what can be done with simple flashlights!
He uses bad equipment, but he still has a professional photo model! I need a professional photo model before I start taking pictures!
Nice video! You can always find excuses instead of trying... You have to learn to uses the good qualities and avoid the bad qualities of your equipment. I'm using a small IXUS to take pictures, and for my use, it works quite well. It's already quite enough to learn how to take pictures, framing and stuff. The only thing I'm missing is better optics when I try to scale the pictures to use them as wallpaper on my big flat screen and more access to the functionalities like exposure and aperture to toy around.
And you can actually take pretty decent photos with a cellphone with enough light and if you avoid shaking the camera. On my phone, in low light, the sensor has to much noise and it's slow, so sensitive to motion. And you can't scale the picture to much, as it amplifies the defects. Some people are able to doing fun stuff with it, I even found people making an application to take HDR pictures with their cellphone!
