Living in Ornex working in Geneva

Hi all!

I am about to come to Geneva to do my research on an international organization. I am thinking to book a room in Ornex in France. I was wondering how good the public transportation facilities are between Ornex and Geneva? Is it too costly the daily transfer from one side to the other? Is there any specific border control between the two regions, even for EU citizens?

Any further information would be highly appreciated.

Thank you all,

Ioannis

I don't live in that direction but the following may help until someone that does can reply.

There is one bus between Cornavin station and Gex which stops at Ornex

Timetables there and back to give you some idea:

Go through the weekdays by clicking on 'suivant' on the timetable, the buses are rather scarce over the weekend and the evenings

Click on link below the timetable ("Afficher la position de l'arrêt sur une carte'')

There can be spot checks carried out on the bus at the border by either the French or the Swiss customs where customs come on bus to check ID etc for everyone

Ah..

..also to note that not all buses on that timetable actually go as far as ornex it's explained below the timetable

doesn't say on your profile if you speak French, but if not it's the ones with an 'a' after them

Hey,

You would need to study from the TPG site (Geneva public transpport) how to get from your place to where you will work

Here's a map, you're prob gonna take the F bus. If possible avoid the rush hour when this bus is very busy

http://www.tpg.ch/documents/10162/12466871/TPG_Plan_Schematique_Periurbain_15.pdf

As for prices you can look at http://www.tpg.ch/tarifs/tous-les-tarifs but the easiest is to go to the main ticket hall at the train station (Cornavin) and buy a pass there for the anmount of time you're here.

There is a border that you will be crossing. It wont really be an issue though, but you need to have ID on you in case the bus gets stopped by customs, which might happen from time to time.

If you reckon I should be aware of something else before I visit Geneva and France, please do not hesitate.
