My school has royally screwed me on my housing.. and now I have to live in "versoix" i am pretty sure this is horrible, can I at least get back and forth to geneva at night on a night bus or something? I am a bit of a night owl, and living in a village is not going to work well for me. I have always lived in Vevey, Lausanne, or Geneva.. so I am very unfamiliar with these other towns

You are in luck. Your new best friend (www.tpg.ch) says you can party all you want on Fridays and Saturdays :)

WHOA.. thats no dice. Friday and saturday only? I am an unemployed student, who sees no one other than classmates during the week. Blood will be shed if I am locked in a village with these people

Well unemployed student, the other nights you should be at home studying :P
Buses and trains from Geneva to Versoix are until midnight the other days. Of course you have the option on spending the evening dancing at a club until the first morning bus :P

That sounds more like me. I have spent a total of 3 nights at home in the last 6 weeks. I live in a suburb of Amsterdam now, but late night commuting is a bit easier here
Anyone with time management skills can study during the day, the nighttime is for partying.. Only.

And how many hours of sleep you need every night to function properly? You must be one of the lucky few!

00:21 is your last train home on school nights. On weekends, the "pyjama" bus runs multiple services after the train service stops. Unfortunately it's a 50 minute ride to do what the train normally does in about 10.
I had worse... My company had to put me in Divonne for a while. Imagine no bus service to/from work after 7PMish. I insisted on a rental car....

You can call it lucky.. My insmonia and energy level is more of a curse than anything.. Im the poster child for ritalin. Here we go to bed around 4 am, and get up around noon.. thats more than enough sleep for a night.
I am annoyed I am living in Versoix, at a pricetag of 41,000 usd for my tuition and housing.

You will be fine. We are always up for a party here!
I loved, LOVED, LOVED lausanne.. and vevey, I only lived in Geneva for a short time before I moved to Vienna. Now I am living in the Netherlands. So I am pretty stoked about coming back, but I am fighting on my housing. My program I am supposed to roll out after Christmas and head to China and Thailand for awhile, but I am considering staying in Geneva permanently for the rest of my degree. We'll see how these cards play out

Versoix is closer to the center of Geneva than a lot of areas that are technically 'part' of Geneva.
Yes it is calm - you're catching it about 5 years too early.
It is really easily bikeable or mopedable from Geneva at night. Bike lanes all the way. Good lighting. About 20 minutes.
Presumably you were able to familarize yourself with bicycles in Netherlands or China ?
Cheers, Mike.

haha actually, I have never riden a bike, it is the thing I hate most about the netherlands.. the excessive bikes, EVERYWHERE. And I havnt been to china yet, that part of my schooling is in the spring. Perhaps this is a sign I need to learn to ride a bike

Yes, Netherlands does have a lot of bikes and dikes.
But back to your transport solutions...
In view of your uniquely personal transportation skills, we may need to reach back and re-boot your mobility education from an earlier period in your life.
The challenge is to find the re-boot point. A few questions will help.
Question 1: Can you use a push-scooter (trottinette) ?
If your answer is 'yes', it would be prudent to reactivate your skills at Geneva Iron-Butt which will be starting its fall 2010 season soon http://safe.mn/bYx
If your answer is 'no' then we need to reach further back.
Please advise.
Cheers,
Mike

Versoix is not that bad...clearly its not a walk home after the 2am kebab...but its only a 5-10 min car ride from Paquis for example...so you should get your date to drive you home.
As for a push bike...its a flat road down the route suisse to get home... 15 - 20 mins worth a try except in the snow...
As to the rest... use Glocals for people in the area to drop you or pick you up for the big parties you wanna attend till youre more settled...Chrimbo is only 2.5 months away after all.....
Panic over...Versoix far safer and nicer than many dodgy areas in Geneva at night, and its a pretty village too.
Im in Chambésy.... and its great.
