Local Schools vs. International Schools

Hello, my family are relocating to Zurich from Australia in 2010. We have two small children, aged 2 and 6. English is our first and only language and we are trying to decide on appropriate schooling. Can anyone share any experiences they may have with local or international schools?

The text you are quoting:

Thanks for sharing Penny. It's always great to hear advice from those that have first-hand experience. Are there any local schools that would be considered more English friendly than the others? Also just a side question, is there an area of Zurich where english speaking ex-pats tend to live?

There's really not "one " area where the English speaking population concentrates.

Most people you meet on one of the events advertised here will either be from US/UK or some other English speaking country (Auzzies, too...).

I would really not make your place of living dependend on the proximity of other expats.

It will be a nice struggle to find housing anyway...

I see that the pages from the department of education and sports in Zurich (http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/ssd/de/index/volksschule.html) are in German and only German.

Do you have a relocation-consultant who could explain the "fine print" to you in English?

Failing that, I would just call them and ask for somebody who speaks English. Most do.

Regards,

Rainer
