Logistics to sell a car

Hi there

Can anyone help me with the paperwork regarding selling my car.

I bought it from a garage and they did all the work for me but how do I sell one privately? It has Swiss plates (canton Vaud) but how does it work out with the new person getting his/her plates before driving the car away?

Sorry to be a hopeless female but any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in buying a Subaru, check out the classifieds section for details.

Thanks

Kate

Hello,

it's quite simple.

Cancel your plates by turning them in and your "Carte grise" will be cancelled.

Sign a sale contract with the buyer and that's it.  See here for additional info and contract template (not all fields are mandatory, i.e. warranty, valuation, etc.): http://www.tcs.ch/main/fr/home/auto_moto/fahrzeugmarkt/kauf/occasionen.html

Good luck.

Cheers,
P.

Hi Ive just done this. If your selling it privately, then you have to de register thew car, you do this by either going to the post office or the local vehkeersamt, where they stamp your grey card as invalid. This is what you give to the new buyer, who then goes and registers the car in his/her name, they then are given the new plates to put on the car. You have to hand in your plates at the moment of deregistration. Do not hand over the car or the papers until you have full payment cash. ONlyt hand over the papers first , wehn the buyer returns with the new plates, then you can let them have the car. The plate s remain yours for up to one year. After this they are handed to someone else. Make sure you hand your plates in at the vehkeersamt, otherwise the police will be chasing you for your insurance papers. I hope this helps.
