Looking for a Job in Geneva (Rant!!!)

I totally understand the economic climate is harsh at the
moment and folk that have had years of experience are finding it hard to secure
a job. Well I have been looking for a “proper Job” since June and I take it
from what I have hard it is really difficult, but my qualm is with the HR folk
if I take my 2 hours to fill in your  poxy online application form  the only decent thing would be for you to
reward me with a Regret email or better still an Interview appointment. And yes
I get it!! You may not have time to reply to folk because you may be busy
twittering or facebooking (would facebooking does it become a verb and is that
correct) Anyway Please HR people I understand I am the one in need but please
reward me. Any observations would be brill..

I know it sounds petty, and that am whining and i understand people have been looking for ages, but would it be so much nicer if they gave you some feedback? Which i understand that they cant do  for everybody.. But it sure annoys the hell out of me.  That is what am whingeing about.

I've found the best way around this is not to expect anything from anyone, and to just
not give a f*** Life is so much easier and enjoayble if you just don't care, no offences, no hurt
feelings, no keeping up appearences, no bothering about what people think about you, or how
they view you, just getting on with life. And if people don't like it, well it doesn't matter cos you
just don't care, this is freedom.

I am truly sorry to hear about your( and anyone else's) employment misfortunes. We truly live in uncertain times, and even those of us lucky enough to have gainful employment worry about our positions. It might help to reflect, that even so, you still have been dealt a good hand in the global game of chance, as you are not wondering where your next meal, drink etc will be coming from., as a matter of life-or-death.
The one person who is probably not looking over their shoulder right now will be that person in Human Resources, who will be too busy organising redundancy councilling, or evaluating their latest batch of physchometric test results or going on a graphology course. Was there ever a more pointless  job than this?( except possibly for Compliance) In the old days we managed perfectly fine with an accounts department and a secretary. You know that Human Resource people understand this. Just ask one if they work in "Personnel" to gauge the response.....
all the best anyway....

In Europe, you won't get any meaningful feedback anymore, since the anti-discrimination laws went into act.As a result, companies don't provide any feedback for fear of you going to court about it.
I don't know about Switzerland, but when I started applying here (over four years ago), I got a very good feedback from one CS guy. I didn't get the job, but at least I got a meaningful feedback - that was almost as good.Nowadays, it's probably all the same everywhere. But maybe the anti-discrimination law was just a good excuse to streamline the application-handling-process...

i understand completely what job seekers are going through. i have personally endured all these situations. over the last 5 years i have been helping job seekers (many here on glocals ) promote themselves in order to get their next great job. as mentioned in the above messages, today it is more difficult than ever before to have your CV considered for the "short list" and interviews are truly an art. (being "yourself"doesn't cut the mustard in today's world. you have to embody the personality that the HR person imagines they want to employ) your CV has to have impact and credibility. just as a shop window in the high street, you have to attract your target market, and entice the "shopper" to enter your world. i have worked on over 1000 CV's and cover letters for employment seekers, so maybe i can assist you too.

Hey!  Brucelawson - I don't know you any better than a bar of soap but wanted to let you know that your reply was brilliant!  A lovely mixture of positivity, compassion, honesty and truth - with a little bit of humour thrown in.  Perfect :-)

i used monster.co.uk to find work, filled it out and ticked the switzerland box on locations to work, it takes a while to fill out, but once its done its just a click of the button to fire off the application should you fancy one of the jobs.

also i assume you have registered with adeco and all the other recruitment agencies, again once they have your cv, they do all the application process
