Not a hotel, but if it just for a few days, I can rent my 3p apt for 80 francs a day. It is very central and quiet, located in place des Nations, in front of tram and bus stops, and 2 minute walk to the COOP supermarket. It is also just a 7min walk to reach the lake and the main train station.
It has a separate kitchen, a small bedroom and lounge, plus toilet and corridor.
I can rent only after 2 february as I have a friend staying over now. I don't use it much, so I can rent several times, but not interested to rent for long periods.
Let me know if you are interested.

Thank you so much. It won't work for this time because I needed it for this week.
But good to know for next time!

Depending on what's going on in the city..... rates may vary but
a double room may be as cheap as ~130CHF/night
this is close to the Airport, to the Balexert shopping center and close to public transportation going downtown in a few minutes.

A nice 3* hotel in the city center is the Strasbourg&Univers.
There is also the Pax hotel in Eaux Vives. It's around the corner from the Roches tram stop (served by the 12, 16 & 17) and a straight shot to the lake down 31 Decembre.

Thanks to everyone for your tips!
Booked the ETAP Hotel (ACCORHotelchain) and was only 96.80CHF the night, big comercial center accross the street, bus lines running every 8-12 min. to the town center or the airport. (less than 10 min. ride). Not very luxurious but confortable enough!

i have had good luck with priceline (www.priceline.com) as long as there is not a conference/convention - you can get 3 or 4* Geneva zone for $80-90 a night plus taxes.
