Making friends via Geneva-Online
We have all been there, you log-on to GoL, see a member you have never spoken to before but would like to talk to, you click the online-chat button....but what do you actually write? Recently my sister, a friend and I have all been using the same computer and the 3 of us were interested at the different responses we got when chatting online with people for the first time. Most members we spoke to came across as nice people who were happy to chat about subjects of mutual interest such as life in Geneva. Sometimes we got an unusual opening line such as..."free stiptease tonight" or "like your photo/profile". (Do not worry, the three of us have a sense of humour!) It can be tricky to write an opening line that is interesting, fun and adheres to protocol, so if anyone has good suggestions in this field then do let us know!

I get lots of chats from people I don't know in the late hs of the night (or early morning ... as someone would have it) ....
Sometimes the opening is 'hi, I read some of ur posts and I see u are ... bla bla bla, or u like bla bla bla ...) ... but one of my favourites is when ppl asks about the motto.
It's a nice way to start chatting. If the other one is from the same country as I am .. i just start with 'hey u are a fellow italian! where are u from?' ...
As a girl I kinda get suspicious when ppl start with nice picture, or nice profile ....

Vale :)

opening lines on chats are a nice topic - thanks Phil.

Because the GoL community is now open to all, some GoL'ers (especially the ladies) can be hesitant when deciding if to accept a chat or not. So the first few lines are important.

I don't want to sound like a saint (cos God knows I am not), but i think the best way here is to be up front and tell the person I am chatting with the reason for the chat. if it cos he/she comes from a certain country I like, is it cos i just feel like chatting with someone right now, etc. Usually fails for me, but that's just because I am a bald guy.

by the way, I still have not understood if he is the one doing the stiptease (option 1) or if is looking for a girl to do it (option 2)?

if option 1, may be we should ask him to create a gol member activity so that girls who are interested could go and see ! LOL

I just replied that I had already gotten one thanks, and that I didn't need another. He thought that was funny, & I thought it was funny that he thought that 'line' would work in the first place!
