Hi guys,


Just wanted to find out if you are married in Geneva do you pay more tax than a couple that is not married?. PS no children. Both on permi B

I think that as a married couple, you share your tax free allowance (about 20k) rather than get 20k each as single people. I believe here is also some incentive for married women to stay out of work, as the husband's tax code is affected. 


I might be wrong. This info comes from hearsay, rather than an official source.

IIRC, as a married couple you combine your incomes and pay the rate for that amount. Thus in most cases two imcomes moves you up a tax bracket and you will pay a higher %.


For example, if each of you makes F100K two single people will each pay the tax bracket for F100K. If you are married, you will add the salaries together and pay taxes on the tax bracket of F200K.
