Meeting place for mums and or dads with kids
Hi all

I have been arranging a mums and mums to be coffee monring every 3 weeks or so.

Its going well and now have about 20-25 people coming, which is great news!

However, its getting a bit difficult to find a meeting place, parks are great until the Autumn / winter comes, then what do I do?

I wont be able to hire a coffee shop for the morning - not with all the buggies and kids running about!!!!

But I dont want to stop this as its just getting somewhere - so I need a bit of inspiration (considering I have only 2 weeks left before i give birth - my inspiration has left me now!)

Where can we go? how can we get around this? obviously I dont really want to charge to hire a place - however if its minimal I dont see an issue.

Any thoughts / suggestions most welcome!

Al

Al,

Congrats on getting this off the ground (great!), and good luck on the coming birth (great!!!). 2 weeks to go...fingers crossed!

What kind of place exactly are you looking for? If you share the criteria, I'll do my best to help find a location.

Hi Nir,

was thinking about hiring a church hall (but they are old and smell funny!) or perhaps a room in a local town hall, but again its the cost involved, I dont mind arranging this but am not sure on the commitment I would get from others as 20-25 people reply but I only get about half turn up.

Just think that we need somewhere to go for sharing information and chats about sore boobs is all! ,-)

Tinkster!

What a lovely story, perhaps we can go into that instead? I can illustrate the books that you can write??? Although it was a bit of a sad ending! Really like the idea of setting something up as think that we can all do with it, but would have to hire you as my translator and PA - if thats ok with you????

Hey Allison,

True, town hall places will almost surely carry a cost. Not much, but still a cost. Maybe best to go for a free option for now, and consider moving to a different place when the group bonds some more.

For free places, I'd start looking here:

"Pain Quotidien" in Champel (1 Ave Alfred Bertrand, 022 346 86 34) . It's real quite during the day (except over lunch), babies & kids are welcome, and it's big enough to host 20 people + baby carriages without issues. And it's right next to the big Champel Park, if folks later want to head outdoors.

What think?

Hi guys

Thanks so much for all your suggestions, great starting point, yes was thinking about Pain Q and perhaps Wolfisberg in Carouge too (perhaps even La Praille but not that accessible for everyone) but still all great ! And good idea for the English Library did not think of there at all!

Was even thinking of contacting the British club (or even the American womans club?) out here, surely they may have somewhere too that we could borrow, anyway, am filled with ideas on how to get this going again for the winter!

So once Junior makes his / her appearance I will get back onto it (well maybe not straight away but still....)

Take care!

Hi Alison,

Just wondering if you ever got this meeting place up and running? It would be great if you have. I've just moved to Geneva witha 10 month old who's getting a bit bored with just me at home:). If you haven't, maybe let meknow and I may try and start on up.

All the best,

Sarah
