Mobile phones

I wondering about which Mobile Phone Company could be the best to sign up with! I’d quite bad experiences before... so I would love to know the local’s preferences??

Hi,

I have Lebara, had it also in the UK. It´s pre-pay and when you top up the credit they give you 50% for free. I am calling often on mobile phones abroad and never had problem with it.

I picked up a SIM-Starterkit from Aldi Suisse, they use the sunrise network, which showed to have good coverage even in most french villages at the western border. The prices are about .10 per text and 0.34 per minute to mobiles.

You get the SIM for 19 CHF with the same amount of avaliable credit and can recharge via buying cash-cards or online via credit-card.

I've used Lebara on and off for the last couple of years, and would also recommend them (for use in Switzerland - not internationally).

All the information you need is on their website - www.lebara.ch (and is in English). And prepay sim cards can either be ordered from there (free) or pick one up from mobilezone stores (possibly a small charge).

They offer a really good data package (5chf per month for 120mb / month), which is far cheaper than anyone else I've come across (supplied through Sunrise). And texts seem to be cheaper than what is offered by Swisscom, Orange etc. I think phone calls are more expensive.

Only problem is that they dont have actual stores, so if you have any problems you have to call their call centre (which I think is in the UK). So customer service isnt great, but their cheap prices more than make up for it.

In the past I used Swisscom, and I've never noticed any difference when changing to Lebara (except for my monthly phone bill dropping by 30chf)

If you already have a phone, you get the best deal by going pre-pay.

To my knowledge, Orange offers the best deal: Every time you put 30chf on the account, you can chose between 1 month of free text messaging or free internet service (on your smartphone).

Every other plan that includes a phone does not offer a real advantage, since you're paying for the phone over the 1 or 2 year contract period, and get very little call / text / web in return.

Does anyone have any experience with a company called Transatel?

I work in Switzerland and live in France. I've been looking for a while for a contract that will let me use data + make calls, either side of the border, without costing me a fortune. This company called Transatel (http://www.transatel-mobile.com/) seem to fit the bill.

However, I'm a bit cautious as I've never heard of them - quite surprising given how many people in the Geneva area are in the same position.Has anyone used them?
