Mom, how right you were...

When i was young(er), my mom kept complaining that the house is not a hotel and that i should help with the housework. And i was thinking "come on i just cleaned the kitchen yesterday! What happened in just a day?"

Well now i can understand how she felt. Trying to keep my flat clean with a full time job, going food shopping and having 5 cats to take care off is exhausting!! The work seems to be never ending! How right my mom was!

Anyone else that found out that his/her parents were in fact right when they told them something? Im not the only one!

You know what, jokes aside, as I get older I see that more and more of the things my parents told me were right.

Cleaning the house is one of them (and it's indeed AMAZING how fast the house gets messy / dirty!).

Another peculiar one, and a bit embarassing, is washing every shirt after I wear it just ones. I use to examine shirts after I wore them, and if they were sweat and stain free, I put them back in the closet for another day. My dad always told me to wash it. In my old age, I see he was right!

There's more things, but they are even stranger than the shirt one...(-:

Go on dont be embarassed!!

I agree with the shirt one. That and wearing clean underwear because you never know what might happen :P

You know what Murphy's law says. If you ever go to hospital in dirty clothes, the doctor that will examine you will be the cutest one in that place :P

Ok..housekeeping and cats aside, what I find even more scary than realising your parents were know-it-alls, is the fact that no matter how hard you try..and believe me I've tried (!) we ALL turn into our parents!!

I was not particularly close to my Mother growing up and would not too quietly cringe at everything she did and said..especially in public...well payback is a bitch because I'll be damned if I don't hear her coming out of my mouth all too often. Cry

DNA....Very Scary!!

Don't worry...soon you'll only have 4 kitties to look after Smile

Actually, I have the opposite experience. I've realised as I've grown older that a lot of the things my mother taught me were completely wrong.

For example, I've learned that there is not a second christmas in the summer, velour trousers aren't cool, small towns aren't nicer than big cities, I do look better in black hair than in red and I will not get a pony when I'm older.

I was most surprised to learn that there are actually monsters in the closet. Big ones too. I can't believe she said there weren't: that's just irresponsible parenting.

I love this thread!

I also find myself becoming more and more like my dad.

Amazing: I left home years ago, went through so many different things, yet I end up acting almost exactly like Dad...(-; Not that it's bad (au contraire!), but it's just an amazing re-confirmation how the base we got as kids sticks with us for life.

As for the dirty underwear advice: I am going to try some reverse fate-tempting here. Tomorrow I will go out wearing dirty undies. If the theory is true (hopefully!), then there's a good change I'll fall sick tomorrow and be treated by a super hot sexy doctor! Let's just hope is a she-Doctor and not a He-doctor...
