Some sources say that ALL export of the local currency is prohibited. Others say that individuals are permitted to carry 1000dh out of the country. I can't find a definitive answer. Anyone familiar with the situation?

You are not supposed to, and you are not even supposed to bring back any foreign currency either (I think a few hundred US equivalent seemed to pass without questions) unless it was declared when you entered.
Been searched several times leaving Casa, so I do not recommend it unless you have to.

That's correct, you are not allowed however, a little amount as a souvenir is tolerated :)
