Moving to Geneva as spouse – residency permit

Hello everyone. My husband has recently got a job in Geneva and relocated from Copenhagen DK, where we’ve been living for 6 years, also as expats (We are both EU nationals). The agency he works for took care of the residency and I plan to join him at end of December. If I move to Geneva as spouse, without a job yet, will I get a residency permit, so I can ultimately get insurance and all the necessary? We are recently married and first time to relocate as a married couple so I don’t know exactly the procedure and what we have to prepare with.

I would really appreciate some advice and tips.

Thank you!!Smile

Hi, you might want to check out the following guide, there is a special section on EU citizens' relatives and some useful links as well.

Assuming nothing strange... He will get a B permit and you will also get a B permit, yours will be for the purpose of family reunification with (probably) or without employment allowed. His is for the purpose of employment.

Does his employer have a staff representative or HR person that might also have info?

If your husband has a UN contract, you will find that his HR department will take care of all the formalities and will also be able to explain the situation with regard to your own possible employment in Geneva plus many, many other allied issues.

Also, his colleagues will be able to give valuable first-hand advice because they will all have been through the same settling-in situation.

Best wishes, R.

If you are working for a Swiss company then the HR department or whoever arranged his permit should already have aranged yours.  There is no problem and you should not be restricted from getting a job.  With International orgs I do not know if there are additional restrictions
