I think Merkel and the other heavyweight intellectual on race relations Sarkozy could do with some scientific support.

"My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my 'blackness' than ever before," the future Mrs. Obama wrote in her thesis introduction. "I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second."

Its about liberals and their race fettish. MIchelle Obama's quote :Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second

Michelle Obama was viciously attacked by Republicans for her thesis.

Your link is not about the attack , but talks of it. And true, I dont like the parts of the republican spectrum that makes them look like liberals.

History will tell you that every single nation and ethnic group TODAY is the result of the mixing of old cultures and ethnic groups coming together (MULTICULTURALISM HAS ALWAYS EXISTED IS NOT A 21ST CENTURY PHENOMENOM YOU KNOW?)....

Except for the Rapa Nui in south america, who lived in total isolation in their island for over 2 thousand years, I can't think of a single culture today that is not the result of the mixing of old cultures, ethnic groups coming together.

The rest, is nothing but 21st century pseudo-intellectuals barking and race obsessed annoying people trying to shove political correctness down other people's throats.

Some people talk about love, sunshine and validation.  That's really nice.  But when someone disagrees with them, those people are vicious and wolves. Dehumanization of a person and resorting to characterizing them as animals is something less than loving.

And some of those same people call President Obama a member of the Muslim Brotherhood!  Funny how people would never have said that about George Bush....

We multiculturalists know how to take a joke, though.  And some of us know how to argue without resorting to saying that people don't know what they are talking about simply because they weren't born in a particular country.

Where is the love?  Where's the sunshine?  Where's the validation?

That is the lie, she was critizesed (not attacked) for saying she never felt proud to be an American untill her husband ran for election.

Calling everyone a racist (or implying that) is sickening, could you please stop with these typical left bashing tactics, its really getting tiresome and old.  Why cant we have a normal discussion without being accused being a "raaaacist" (sheepsound)

In fact, many young people who would have been termed bi-racial in the US now do not feel the need to mark a race-oriented category on the US census.  They reject these lines of thought.

The National Geographic has a very interesting project that can be found at this link:

https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/participate.html

A friend of mine participated in it and found that his family had some Azerbajani ancestry of which he had never known.

And speaking of political correctness,  I thought this little excerpt from the late Harvey Milk's Hope Speech might be enlightening...

"I can't forget the looks on faces of people who've lost hope. Be they gay, be they seniors, be they blacks looking for an almost-impossilbe job, be they Latins trying to explain their problems and aspirations in a tongue that's foreign to them. I personally will never forget that people are more important than buildings. I use the word "I" because I'm proud. I stand here tonight in front of my gay sisters, brothers and friends because I'm proud of you. I think it's time that we have many legislators who are gay and proud of that fact and do not have to remain in the closet. I think that a gay person, up-front, will not walk away from a responsibility and be afraid of being tossed out of office.

After Dade County, I walked among the angry and the frustrated night after night and I looked at their faces. And in San Francisco, three days before Gay Pride Day, a person was killed just because he was gay. And that night, I walked among the sad and the frustrated at City Hall in San Francisco and later that night as they lit candles on Castro Street and stood in silence, reaching out for some symbolic thing that would give them hope. These were strong people, whose faces I knew from the shop, the streets, meetings and people who I never saw before but I knew. They were strong, but even they needed hope."

Pilger also reveals the failure of his own native country vis a vis the aboriginal inhabitants. When I read of their treatment I am reminded of the similar socio-economic and health disasters that confronted and confront the indigenous inhabitants of the country in which I grew up - Canada. One hears the same voices in Canada as Australia, blaming the victims and accusing them of laziness, backwardness, barriers to economic progress through their legal demands that treaties be respected. I wonder if any Canadian has been as honest in documenting the past and present of Canada's first nations. As opposed to the former top advisor to the current Canadian PM Harper who seems to have devoted a large part of his academic career to disparaging the Canadian 'aboriginals'. http://www.walrusmagazine.com/articles/the-man-behind-stephen-harper-tom-flanagan/2/
The text you are quoting:

Film link should have been attached to my previous post on Pilger and Australian aborigines. It is easy and most often ineffective to criticise those outside one's own country as opposed to raising criticism of a country of one's own where one might be able to influence and effect change through various non-violent means i.e. information/education/representative voting.

The Piger video is very very propaganda minded

Let me ask you this David where are the Jews supposed to live ?

Why Europeans dont get more involved in Iran, Libiya, somalia, but just mention theTINY  Jewish homeland and everyone is calling the Israelis all sorts of names.

Look history did not start at 1948 or WW2, my family was there right after the pogroms and there were always jews there

Israel is a TINY land and you should know that when Jordan occupied Jerusalem ( 1948 to 1967) there was no religous tolerance

we jews could not pray at the holiest site for jews, the wailing wall, the last wall of the jewish temple ,

I am not saying everything done in Israel is without criticism alright but

there is a lot of self criticsm which is lacking in the western world and the arab world

There are a lot of discussions but you know what

it is not an easy situation and for some of us there is no other place to live

Amos oz , the Israeli writer ( peace activst)  said

"In the 1930s they said, Jews go back to Palestine, now they say

Jews get out of Palestine"

A lot of Jews had no where to live, were displaced

Dont forget six million  Jews could have been saved had zionism been able

to acheive the establishment of a jewish homeland before Hitler came to power.

Unfortunately the Jewish homeland came too late for six million jews ( more than one million children )

Jews not only lost their lives, a whole way of life had been destroyed, jewish property stolen and the religion and culture humilated and desicrated .

I dont think Israelis do anything evil in Israel, we are just trying to survive

and yes, the Israeli army is way more humane than any army in such

circumstances

Israeli education is free of racism and in fact teaches about the values of peace and coexistence and the mainstream education is secular and liberal .

The extremists dont serve in the army and would not be allowed in the army.

There are always extremists in every society but in Israeli society these are the minority .

I also dont find suicide bombers funny , i lived in that reality too many years

It is very fraustrating giving back land and getting missiles instead

It is very fraustrating to know my mother escape nazi rule and then i have to hear from some  German speaking people that i have no right to my own land.

israel is the historical homeland of the jewish people, end of story

it is well documents in archeology and SERIOUS historical literature, not just the bible,

not propoganda films

ONE billiard moslem in more than 50 lands and ONE jewish land is too much

for you ??

I definitely think that criticising Israel is antisemitism because the criticism

is almost always not accepting the right of Jews to their homeland

and calls occupation what is actually the Jewish historical homeland before

some British officer drew a line across a map by chance.

The Israeli army is not an occupation army it is the Jewish defense army

against those wishing to wipe the Jews off the map

and we have no other home

I am not an American or European and the Eurpeans and Arabs kicked Jews out of their lands

and the only place they could have gone to is their historical homeland

not an occupied land, our land

p.s.

there were hardly any Arabs living in Palestine before the jews began going back

and that is a fact

Mark Twaine visited the land called palestine in the the late 19th century and documented a land almost empty of inhabitants-

I trust Mark Twaine more than any half backed journalist propaganda pusher

No you cant

my maternal grandmother had six brothers and sisters

they were murdered in concentration camps and their children

two nephews and one niece survived

Why did my grandmother survive?

she went to Israel

Here is the story of an angel

because we can not generalize and this Polish woman hid Jewish children

who could not escape and had no homeland

she taught her dog to bark every time the Nazi guards came

so they would not hear the children cry

she was a candidate to win the nobel peace prize david

she did not win

you know who won ? Yassar Arafat who stole money from his people and placed bombs in Israeli market places murdering children and women

And he is now considered relatively moderate

so dont talk to me about palestinian justice

who spoke up for the jews when they were being murdered

and the world was silent except for a few brave souls??

Here is Rabbi Israel meir LAU, the former chief Rabbi of Israel

he grew up in a concentration camp

was liberated when he was 8 years old, he could not read or write

his life was saved by a Russian soldier who sacrificed for him

Antisemitism did not start in the holocaust

but it stops when there is a Jewish homeland free of racism

that can guarantee safety for the Jewish people

and those who live with them in PEACE

till now rumors of peace remain rumors

and the Jewish people and their army are targeted nonstop

for protecting a TINY strip of land

The Israeli PM said

*if the palestinians put down their weapons there will be peace

if the Israelis put down their weapons there would be no Israel"

Eli Wiesel on the president of Iran

who was honored in Geneva

what kind of a world do we live in ?

when every single day Israel is criticized in the swiss media

and the arab lands continue human rights abuse

hopefully the Arab peoples have had enough lies

and are now asking questions big time

Deep and valid criticism of the Netanyahu government does not equal belief that Israel does not have the right to exist.

You appear to be seriously lacking adequate sources of information about how some elements of your military operate. This information is not difficult to find. It's almost as easy as looking up songs or movie clips...

No, you are not an American, but by associating President Obama with the Muslim Brotherhood as you previously have in these forums, you are using the same xenophobic and divisive tactics of the Republican party.

It is a blessing that there are so many Israelis as well as others around the world working for peace in the region.

A friend sent me the links for Matisyahu, a hasidic-reggae-rapping artist who is definitely a marvelous and musical example of multiculturalism...

Oh, and regarding Mark Twain's observations on Palestine, some may find this article of interest....

http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/20/netanyahus-embrace-of-mark-twain/

“Whatever the merits of taking selected observations of a comic novelist as solid demographic evidence 130 years after the fact, Mr. Netanyahu might be faulted for constructing the paragraphs above by stitching together fragments of Twain’s account, with heavy use of ellipses. For instance, in the description of the Galilee quoted above, Mr. Netanyahu separated Mr. Twain’s thoughts about Tiberias and his description of a journey to Mount Tabor by ellipses and just one line of text, while in fact, as Frank J. Menetrez has pointed out in an analysis of how Twain’s text has been used by other Zionist authors, in “Innocents Abroad” there are “12 pages and numerous intervening paragraphs” between those two scenes...

"Mr. Netanyahu was not the first person to embrace “Innocents Abroad” in support of the argument that 19th century Palestine was a “wasteland.” As John Kearney wrote on the blog Mondoweiss on Monday, Twain’s “portrayal of the Holy Land as a filthy, backwards, empty place,” was cited by Joan Peters in her book “From Time Immemorial,” in 1984. All three of the passages from Twain quoted above from Mr. Netanyahu’s book appeared first in Ms. Peters’ book….

"In his post on Mondoweiss, Mr. Kearney argued that Twain’s book was “hardly a survey,” and noted that “Today there are still large, non-agricultural areas in the West Bank and Israel where you can drive and not see a soul.”

...

"Netanyahu took historian Michael Oren, Israel’s ambassador-designate to Washington, with him on his trip. Oren wrote a fascinating book on American attitudes toward the Middle East, in which he says the Muslims disgusted Twain: “No number of negative adjectives, it seems, could express Twain’s disgust.”

"That said, in Mr. Oren’s book, “Power, Faith, and Fantasy: America in the Middle East 1776 to the Present,” he points out what some Israeli champions of Twain may have missed, that the writer was equally scathing about most of the world’s people, including Americans. According to Mr. Oren:

Twain indeed resembled earlier American visitors to the Middle East, yet one characteristic distinguished his writing from that of all other tourists. Whereas his predecessors looked at the region and saw in its brutality and backwardness an inverse image of their own tolerance and refinement, the mirror, for Twain, showed Americans to be equally small-minded and crude.

Mr. Oren also wrote that, in an essay against the anti-Semitism, which he wrote after being himself mistaken for a Jew, 'Twain nearly defeated his purpose by mentioning the Jews’ alleged love of money and their reluctance to serve their country in war.'  Such are the perils of embracing the criticism of your enemies by a comic happy to offend every member of his global audience.”

Oh, and regarding Mark Twain's observations on Palestine, some may find this article of interest....

Re: Multiculturalism, tolerance and understanding
Post 57
Rep. Michele Bachmann and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, two right-wing Republicans eyeing presidential campaigns in 2012, provided a big boost for Black History Month recently with remarks challenging contentions that this recognition of ignored contributions is an irrelevant relic in this post-racial "Age of Obama."

Although conservative dogma considers this annual observance during the month of February an anathema, neither Bachmann nor Barbour face censure for heresy from their ideological confederates.

Far from being a ringing endorsement, the offensive utterances of Bachmann and Barbour highlight the importance of Black History Month founded in the early 20th Century to counter factual inaccuracies about blacks then rampant across America's racially segregated society.

Michelle Bachmann, the Minnesota Congresswoman and Tea Party maven, said America's Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery--a gross distortion of historic fact easily evident in the life of George Washington, America's first President and Revolutionary War leader, who was born in the month of February.

Washington owned slaves and, as president, signed the federal Fugitive Slave Act mandating return of runaway slaves seeking freedom.

"We are still more afraid of a young black male in a hoodie than Wall Street traders who stole billions, he says. "Bankers terrorized the US economy causing its collapse but white Americans think terrorists are only Arab Muslims."
