Nanny sharing?

Hello all, nanny question: we're expecting bb # 3 in April and I will probably return to work early September. Obviously, there would need a miracle for us to get a place in a creche so I'm exploring other options (the older 2 are in school).
Has anyone had any experience with sharing a nanny? Our ideal would be to have a nanny come to our home full time (8-18) and find another family with baby similar age to be minded at our place (2-3 days a week when the other two are full time at school).
I've never been too comfortable with the 1-1 childminding solution and it would be a good way to lower the cost of the nanny at home option.
If you have any suggestions / experience you can share or if any of you is expecting and thinking of this as a good idea, let me know, I'd love to beat the system... since Geneva is not really keen on finding solutions for working mums.

Hi Aurelie!

Where abouts do you live? I have two young kids and am also looking for a nanny solution because i work 80%...

I tried to find this type of solution when I had my daughter (now almost 3), but the mothers I proposed the solution to were not interested...

Look forward  to hearing from you

Hi Renuka,

I live in Eaux Vives and am looking for ideas for September. Thing is, I'd rather share a nanny with a family with a kid approximately the same age as mine. BB3 being expected in April, she would be around 5 months old by the time it starts.

I find the nanny sharing minding option is not being so popular here in Geneva and I don't understand why.

The concept of “sharing”, whether for nannies, flats and a whole lot else, is different here.

Local society tends to be rather more “reserved” in responding to external contact than elsewhere – so we, the incomers, need to respect this.

For all that, if you keep advertising you will most probably find someone who is happy to share her nanny, but she will also probably not be Swiss.

All the best, R.

Ritchie thank you very much for the useful comment. I actually post on Glocals forum because I think there will be more chances I find a non-Swiss family who will be more inclined to have the same "sharing concept" as mine.

I know also that in Geneva, and probably more so in the rest of Switzerland, there are a lot of women who take a career break to raise their kids or work part time, which is something I cannot afford.

So as much as I respect it, I think that the childminding situation for working mothers here is dramatic, spots in creche are impossible to get and the idea of putting the better part of my salary in the pocket of a maman de jour (even if it is well deserved) pushes me to look for more creative ideas, cost saving solutions as much as fun for the little ones.

I only doubt I am the only one in this situation.

All the best.
