Need a Google+ invitation ?

If anyone needs a Google+ invitation send me a message with your e-mail address and I'll invite you.

Why use G+? They're (marginally) better than Facebook in handling your privacy, and have some features that are interesting. But mainly because it's a good thing for Facebook to get some competition.

Note: I may need a day or so to send you the invitation; no need to spam reminders.

I opened my account on G+ yesterday and it seems to be more attractive than Facebook, but I'd suggest to be careful with what you post on Google+.

Here's an article which argues that Facebook has better privacy controls http://www.conceivablytech.com/8343/products/google-and-you-thought-facebook-is-a-privacy-nightmare

There is no need to be worry about your privacy. i don't know why people are so conscious about their privacy stuff If you are so much serious about it. Don't use social networking sites; don’t leave your foot prints on the internet. Use AES-256 (Encryption algorithm used by the US Government) ;)

Google has just launched its service. Its new, They will make a lot of improvement in near future on the basis of statistical data and trends of the users,.  So see and wait, i am sure they will bring more improved features including privacy control. Get your Id, play with it. Make new friends.

I invited you. But as a point of caution, don't post your e-mail address on forums. It's an effective way to attract spam and other bad things.

Don't be annoyed if, after I invite you, I don't become your friend. I keep my social networks pretty closed.

Hi Edward

I meant that I can also give invitations out  as well, if anyone needs them.

But the big difference between FB and Google is that FB is not as open as Google.

Google encourages circles for different items/subjects/people allowing for a far greater interaction with people. There are also a number of news organizations coming up and I have a circle just for news. It's a different ball game than FB Smile

Hi Lynda,

I understood your message, thanks for helping out. The comment I made earlier ('don't expect me to friend you') wasn't addressed at you, but at people I've already invited.

On G+: I still need to find the time to go through the features properly, but it all looks quite convenient and useful.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/14/technology/personaltech/google-gets-a-leg-up-on-facebook.html?ref=technology

"From now on, every time you share something — a news item, a thought, a photo, a chat invitation — you can specify exactly which Circles receive it. In one fell swoop, Google has solved the layers-of-privacy problem that has dogged Facebook for years....

"Senators embarrassed by their children’s drunken party photos. Potential employers reading about your crazy nightlife. Girlfriends learning accidentally about their beaus’ proposal plans. All of it goes away with Circles. You share each item with only the people who deserve to know. And simultaneously, you spare the masses from seeing news of no interest to them; why should the whole world be in on your discussion on this Friday's bowling outing?

You’re spared, too. You can click a Circle’s name to filter the scrolling blurbs. You can view only the work-related posts, only your college buddies’ posts, or only your grandparents’ posts, with one click apiece.

Facebook has something similar, called Lists. But compared with Circles, it’s buried and a lot more effort to use. In Google+, you have to specify who gets each post or each photo (although it remembers your last selections). That’s actually a little annoying — you can’t just type an update and hit Enter — but over all, the benefits outweigh the hassle."

...

BUT

"You keep wondering: What if people in that circle share my private post with their circles? And what happens if I remove a couple of people from a circle? Can they still see things I’ve shared in the past? You’ll spend a good deal of time fumbling around."

@ Translator - that's the thing that always annoyed me most about Facebook. I talk about different things and even use different language depending on whether I talk with my colleagues, ex-classmates, poker friends and relatives. There are certain things I want to share with some of my friends, but don't want others to know about.

Google seems to have solved that issue, although it does mean an extra step to post something (i.e. selecting the circle you want to share it with).

I wonder whether Google + says it "owns" any information posted using its site.  Has Facebook maintained this position or did that change with people having protested against that policy?

Of course Google has rights on your contents. But most of the time they use your personal information like age group, country, Race, Activities, Likes and dislikes, depending on these statistics and trends, They use it for placing targeted advertisement.

11. Content license from you

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.

11.2 You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.

11.3 You understand that Google, in performing the required technical steps to provide the Services to our users, may (a) transmit or distribute your Content over various public networks and in various media; and (b) make such changes to your Content as are necessary to conform and adapt that Content to the technical requirements of connecting networks, devices, services or media. You agree that this license shall permit Google to take these actions.

11.4 You confirm and warrant to Google that you have all the rights, power and authority necessary to grant the above license.

Adding to Waqas's response:

Facebook did at some point have in their conditions that they owned copyright to stuff you posted on the site, but as far as I know the protests were so severe that they changed it soon after.

Nevertheless with Facebook you always need to be careful; they may suddenly change a privacy setting or something that allows advertisers to use your posts (and pictures?) for commercial purposes, or something like that. This means you have to go through your privacy settings once in a while to uncheck everything.

I think most people hope that G+ will be a bit more transparent about these things. Google doesn't have the best track record (e.g. when they recorded wifi network info when they drove around with Google Streetview cars), but they still seem to do better than FB and some others.

I don't see a reason NOT to use your real name or pictures on social networking sites unless you are High Profiled person or due to any security reason. Ahh c'mon, there is no harm in using real name and personal pictures, If you think you are safe on internet. You are mistaken. These big internet monsters know you more than you can even imagine. They know how long time you spend on internet. On which web sites and in which activities, where you go for shopping, your friends even they know a lot about your history (assuming). What things you are searching the most on internet.

EVEN GLOCAL (intentionally or unintentionally) is providing your usage information to GOOGLE, Using google-analytics

As per Google Analytics Terms and conditions

6. INFORMATION RIGHTS AND PUBLICITY . Google and its wholly owned subsidiaries may retain and use, subject to the terms of its Privacy Policy (located at http://www.google.com/privacy.html , or such other URL as Google may provide from time to time), information collected in Your use of the Service

Dear you are not safe on internet if you think you are. So don’t worry they won’t harm you, they are just helping us to make a smarter planet.

Waq> I know all that. "Safe" is not possible, but there is some leeway. You can open your life to the world. I just say, it would be bad advice - no matter, how pristine, you think it is.

As for safety, consider "stalking", "HR research", that people have different values, the prolific Internet+reallife nutters, and so on and so forth. Advertising profiling is only a minor nuisance, in comparison.

You can be open all you want, but there's no delete button.
