New Law (Loi Alure) : One month notice period for unfurnished flat/house on the French side

To those who are not aware, here is something to please some of you: a recent law has come out and applies in some towns in France (not all) which allows you to give 1 month notice instead of 3 months for unfurnished flat (to be sent by registered mail one month before leaving) at any given time during the year.

Amongst the towns included in this list: Ferney-Voltaire, Prevession-Moens, Saint-Genis-Pouilly, Ornex, etc (have a look on the internet to get the list).

In the past, for unfurnished flats, we had to give 3 months notice, now only ONE! Same as for furnished flats BUT only valid for towns on the Loi Alure list.

Hope it helps some of you who need to move out/in.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Question: I signed a contract that requires three months notice about a year ago. Does this law overrule my contract? And do you have a source on this?

Thanks.

Yes it does! I have just done it, sent an email to the agency quoting the law.. Here is some more info about the zones where it applies. http://www.la-loi-alur.org/zone-tendue/

Thank you for clearing that up!

I came across this template letter, perhaps someone else might find it useful too: http://www.pap.fr/modeles-de-lettres/location/resiliation-bail-preavis-reduit-zone-tendue-location-vide
