Newborn insurance

Hi all,

I need a bit of guidance regarding the insurance for a baby. It is my understanding that I should have the insurance before the baby is born to avoid problems but I am having a lot of doubts regarding what supplements include.

For instance, about the dental care I assume that it will not be needed until a few years. But is it mandatory to pay for it for some time in advance like with pregnancy coverage?

Is there any other supplement that you highly advise to have for a newborn?

Many thanks,

Celia

Hi Celia,

I just looked into this right now since I am also concerned. I would go with the standard coverage plus a complementary insurance primarily due to the fact that I want my baby to be insured outside Switzerland as well. You can pick the minimum of supplement needed but get some advice some the insurance what exactly is included. You just want to make sure your baby is well covered because babies can be sick quite often and it can become very costly.

Also, the insurance fee is quite low for a baby when you are already insured in the same insurance. On top, some companies subsidies a portion of the fee as well.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I will definitively take the complementary insurance.

Hello,

my second kid was born in June 2015, insurance contract for the baby before delivery date is just basic, and then after delivery you should notify your insurance company and insurance start at this day and at that time you can choose any complementary insurance, and company depend on the baby health status approve it,

Hello Celia,

I work for an insurance brokerage, Symphony Group SA, which is an independent broker that represents most of the insurance companies in Switzerland.

Although Akbar and Missdior have some good points, I think it's worth mentioning that insurance companies offer a prenatal insurance which provides both the basic insurance as well as some of the complimentary insurance for one price.  Some of the companies offer free choice, of doctor, semi private room, dental, and coverage abroad; without the need to answer any health questions related to the baby.

If you want more information, let me know and I would be glad to assist you.

Kind regards,

Deepak
