I guess most people come to Switzerland to make lots of money and then leave to go home and meet someone and start a family eventually.

It's true but the same can be said of any place that's not where your heart/family is. We all leave somewhere at some point. Even you left somewhere to be here and am sure some people miss you too and some people will miss you when you do leave here or wherever "this place" is.
So don't worry, make the best of the few friends you manage to make. Live in the moment. Enjoy yourself. At least you know the days are numbered. If you're lucky to find someone to make "this place" home with, then all good. If not, it doesn't matter, you simply go back to wherever home is.

I came to this place for a year max and am still here 17 years later. Have made friends here, have got involved in local activities. I love it when I go back to my native country but is that because I love it or miss it? I do not know.
Am making the most of it. Maybe I will move on and, if I do, I will enjoy the next place.
