Hello everyone,
A couple days ago a few of us were discussing about certain Global nominations we would like to do.... So here I start and I think there is more is to come.....
The choice of the 6 people is obviously “subjective” and informal but hopefully representative. We think they really deserve a special dedication. Please feel free to join in with your comments or add other comments for other outstanding Glocal members.
Nir and Oded...we want to congratulate and thank a thousand times for putting Glocals up and also running and for all your positive energy. ----THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Here are the first two other nominated people:
Thank you to the 2 HOSTS of the year 2007:
SWISS and JASPER!
Thank you for organizing every month regularly your great events, with such a success.
You both are great hosts!
Both are so welcoming, well organized, full of initiative, warm hearted, joyful. They both love people for whom they are. Thy both help building relationships and making people feel at ease in their own individual fantastic way!
Thanks SWISS for your incomparable openness and warmth and having us discovered different places in Geneva.
Thanks JASPER for your discrete way of bringing people together in Lausanne and have us discover so many different places!
To both of you
Merry Christmas and a SUPER 2008!

...with sunfun's choice !!!!!!!!
In addition, I would like to nominate JulianT for the category …!Diversity!... to recognize the sheer variety of member activities he managed to organize in 2007, ranging from the perfect relaxation to some life threatening experiences. Offering all this at any hour of the day (or night), addressing any age group, in any location (Geneva, Lausanne, Montreux, on a tree, under a tree, up in the air, …) is an effort that deserves to be acknowledged.
I also heard that ‘Break-o-dawn’ is nominated for this years special ‘Rega-award’ for hiking events that cannot, or should not, be reproduced…but this might only be a vicious rumour ;-) However, it surely deserves a nomination in the category ‘Most discussed member activity in 2007’.
I would also like to add Deano1uk and his Curry Club to the list if nominees. He is successfully organizing this event for more than a year now. It is always great fun…and you never go home hungry.
Of course this is only my personal opinion and I can only speak for member activities I’m usually attending. I’m sure there are many other exciting events and dedicated organizers to be nominated….
What would be glocals without the people volunteering to organize all those great member activities ! THANK YOU GUYS!

Thanks Sun and Stef, and fully agree that Jasper and Swiss made a big difference to the lives of many glocals, and deserve a huge BRAVO for it.
I also LOVE the idea of publicly recognising folks who touch other people's lives. We try to do this on glocals, althogh not a regular base. We do it with publishing 'interviews with glocals stars', and via awarding symbolic 'glocals oscars' at some of our events.
But we'd love to make the recognition a bit more strructured, and with more of the community involved.
One of the key issues we had on this in the past is selecting what criteria exactly to use in order to select the 'winners'. Is it people who made a different to you? Or people who do the most activities? or people who post the most helpful stuff or the forums / city guide?
any feedback / idead welcome.
Thanks again for the great idea,
Nir

Hi SF
I love the idea, I agree with your choices, and I would like to add a few people to your list:
1. Busstop- because he has been organizing the glocals pool tournament for a long time, and he puts alot of work into it.
2. YouMeCo - because she is everywhere, she is always positive and ready to help, and she is one of the nicest people I have ever met.
3. Stef_Granny - because he is 95 years old, has hundreds of grandkids, and still manages to be the life of every party.
I could go on and on, but I think I'll leave some people for others to nominate.
Way to go guys
Thanks for doing what you do
Oded

thats why we said it was subjective and invited others to do their own dedication....
it not possible to be everywhere and have the same standard criteria for everyone...it is grat to hav the structured way like Glocal stars and also the open platform that can be used by everyone ...
nothing to do with overlook or prefer one or the other everyone can name anyone
and I think yes the list should be longer for all the different activities...
and I personally think theo ones who attend the events are the best ones to choose..
anyway maybe next year there will be a "Glocals Oscar Night"???
food for thought :-))
Sorry if anyone felt offended by not being mentioned..that was just our small view...please
Enjoy your Chrsitmas time

i've already been interviewed, so it's someone else's turn now!
i'm gonna be ultra-biased and second Tinkie's nomination - she does organise a lot of things in the summer (going to concerts, picnics, you name it) and she often invites Glocalers to her home. that's the spirit!
also, i think Gudrun and Mr_Scientist should be nominated for their amazing Glocal-spirit. they are both always happy and always ready to meet new people and involve them in whatever event they go to. you guys are GREAT!

Berlin as one of the hardest-working, most creative and friendliest Glocalers I have met this year. Berlin is running the conversation cafes and culinary events nearly every evening of the week at Austin's squat in Les Grottes. He's helped so many of us begin to communicate across cultures with fabulous music as well. Berlin, thanks for your openness and for being so generous with your time.
Hobbes deserves applause for being the most-open minded (not to mention most contrarian) SWISS on Glocals!!! It is great to read comments from someone who is not afraid to speak his mind and who resists groupthink. Hobbes clearly supports the principles of free speech embedded in the SWISS constitution not just for his compatriots but even for us "auslanders." Brother Xavier, with you around, no one ever has to feel "sheepish" about voicing an unpopular opinion.
And to the Site Administrators, the balebatim of Glocals, thanks for all your hard work and good humor.

seems the idea of nominating other members can fly (thanks again Sunfun).
what you guys think about opening a real voting system that allows members to nominate and vote for people who should be most recognised?
should we do it?

can't people be happy receiving just the gushing thanks of their fellow Glocalers? Otherwise what is the point?
Some people others have cited as being warm, friendly and cuddly might have been downright hostile and vicious to people they don't even know, based upon simple misunderstandings or worse, ignorance, xenophobia, etc. (ummmm, not mentioning any names and just speaking hypothetically, you understand . . .) Should such people be rewarded for creating their own personality cults?
Some people put on monthly events, some weekly, some almost daily. Doesn't seem possible to compare. Is it fair to compare party-throwers with soup-kitchen doo-gooders? What about the tireless photographers? And the equally tireless partiers who seem to be in every other photo? Don't they deserve recognition, too?
What about the men and the women who have dated the most Glocalers? Haven't they provided services to the community, so to speak? Would they appreciate being cited for such efforts above and beyond the call of duty?
Or can we give everyone a gold "G" and call it a day?
Happy Holidays . . .

It is nice to see active members being recognised here for their kind efforts and contribution to the community. One of the names for consideration should be Ehsaan because he has done wonderful work to arrange events and develop the Glocals-Zurich section.

for NMD and refining the NMD format to a newcomer-friendly way. She focused on ways to better welcome a new member. She has made Glocals a lot more interesting community.

Totally appreciated!!
But at the end of day, its WE as glocalers who should be nominated.
Can you imagine an event with NO attendees?
So I vote for US as a community!!
LONG LIVE GLOCALS!!
Happy holidays

Oded already posted his view that YOU, Yomi, should be recognised for the difference you're making to so many people here.
You're full of energy and good spirits, super active, and your glocals spirit is contagious.
My vote goes to you my friend...

I nominate Yumi for being the perfect glocals host!!!
She hosted a "total stranger" like me during my first Bollywood party and it was just great.
And....not to be forgotten...Yumi's Kitchen where she let me cook curry twice!!
Other than that...
I have not attended any of the events, but have seen the postings and reviews
Sherri for NMD (I have attended a couple of NMD events).
Julian T for his Varieties
Busstop for his famous Pool tournaments
Rasputin for Wine and Tapas
Minda for her T-Drinks
and many more who I haven't come across...
And last, but not the least THE OFEK brothers for keeping this site up and running.
But, the WINNER is WE GLOCAS!!!
I believe, organizing an activity is important, but from my point of view is it is the ATTENDEES who make an activity a successful activity.
Happy Holidays!!
Cheers
Ehsaan
