Ode to mystery men...
red roses wilt
violets stay true
if you had a creepy dude
whatever would you do

oh creepy dude oh creepy dude
why can't you see what's true
even under that stalker-like exterior
will never i find a real friend in you?

admirers are kool
romanticism is nice
but agressiveness, smothering and dullness
gets you nowhere, 'tis my advice

oh glocals, dear glocals
a shame the myth is true
a community of glocalers and locals
no dear...its Sindy part 2

so shew fly stalkers and creepy dudes
shew fly, don't bother
shew fly, don't bother me
'cause i belong to somebody

Well written Jess!

I've actually had fewer problems on glocals than on the streets of Geneva... after the Wine and Tapas last Thursday (or the one before?) I was harassed so badly at a bus stop that I was seriously considering if I should make a run for it or or I could knock the guy out if he got more agressive...

When from up on the stop there arose such a clatter,

I jerked my head up to see what was the matter,

When who, to my relieved eyes, did appear,

***But my (drunken) Finn, 6'4" to fear!

(last line edited due to inappropriate cuteness... "my hero my dear" might rhyme, but it's saccharine :P )

Thanks  ;)

Glad you can't share all my hicups here on glocals but sorry to hear about your experiences in Geneva.  I've had a few very agressive annoying men smother me with their failed romanticized attempts at wooing here in the streets of Lausanne.  And then I say to myself, self...are they for real?  Is this behavior actually acceptable here?  I grew up in the hood in NY (as in PR) and a thing like that would only happen if the guy wasn't afraid of getting bitch slapped by the girl or getting jumped by her friends.  What a horror!!!  Guess its part of the charm of living here

Jess:

In Rome do as romans do.

In the U.States people are crazy about "sexual harrassments" issues - don't look, don't talk, be politically/sexually correct. Luckily, Europe is different.

p.s. Do you know this story about Snowman becoming Snowperson? That happened in the US.

Yes, I come from Canada and there are times when the larger Canadian communities do ridiculous things like have Snowpersons and try to ban Christmas Trees or rename them Holiday Trees... this year in Canada there was no talk of such nonsense, likely because many of these municipalities were laughed at by everyone else :D

There is also a big difference between a guy saying, "Hey baby, you're hot, wanna come back to my place..." while giving you room to move and threatening advances that push you into a fence so you can't escape!

Generally most men I've met around here are wonderfully polite. However, it only takes one or two to make a girl nervous about going out after dark :/

Men are more than objects of predatory lust; we have feelings too. It is much nicer to simply introduce yourself, and chat about such innocent things as the weather, shoe size, and the ethics of Jonas. And in the end, if we dont want to sleep with you, isnt it great to find a new friend?[/quote]

Hmm, so if after I introduce myself to a guy I can tell him to strip to his size 10 shoes since it's much too hot outside to stay dressed?

Okay :D

Hey, what's wrong with me?!?

I've never been harassed in the streets (luckily for the harasser(s) ;) ) and I've never been used as an object either (o.k., once, I've been used as a door-stopper, but it was accidental. And painful)...

Sheesh, how am I supposed to live a succesful life NOW?

Syd (back in town).

PS: Any one who would explain the uppermentioned regrets by a lack of human-compatible genetical material will see his(her) atoms sent across the galaxy by the great U'ch-Lbt'h.

I have noticed that there certainly is a night and day difference between how romantically aggressive some European men (and particularly, our amorous Greek and Italian friends) are compared to the States. If a guy so much as touched a girl's arm at the bus stop in Baltimore, he would be pepper sprayed, screamed at, arrested, and probably registered as some kind of sex offender and put in a rehabilitation program.

In the US, women have quite a bit of power when it comes to controlling an advance. In practice, probably way too much, so far as legal proceedings and their ability to absolutely doom someone go, but I'm not sure that taking a "well, so long as stopped shy of boffing her in the street, I suppose it's alright, then" approach is particularly enlightened, either.
