Oh! My! God! Sticker Shock!!!!!
Ok ,so I'm on an orientation trip to Geneva, a Brit relocating via LA.
A nice afternoon shopping is brought to a crashing halt by unbelievable sticker shock! How does anyone ever buy anything here?
The $40 shoes I buy for my little boy are 120 chf.
My $80 boots are 250 CHF.
My $28 manicure was 150 CHF in Carouge yesterday!
The only clothes at prices I can deal with are of a quality I stopped buying after I graduated. I don't want to be dressed in manmade fabrics that give me electric shocks again.
I am imagining for myself a life totally devoid of any personal treats or indulgences.
What do you do? Where do you go?
Life looks bleak!
Francesca

I had major sticker shock when I arrived too and unless I REALLY need something I usually wait until we are traveling to buy things. And like Sheri said, you feel like the whole world is on sale and eating out is a SO CHEEP other places I always feel like I can splurge! ;)

....after 6 years here, one finds that even an enormous salary doesn't stretch far.

I travel alot for business, and am gratified when I go to places that are considerably more expensive than here. (Scandi and Nordics for example).

Not sure how my wife manages it, but you should get in contact with my wife (Tigritsa on my network), she has found some great shoe shops, one especially in Nyon that seems to have a year round sale. We get our daughter her shoes there for about Fr.10 to Fr. 25. and they are perfectly suitable.
(I bought some there too< and Im a shoe snob> for about Fr45)

For some shopping we nip to France (cough ~ hope no jolly customs chaps are reading this)... clothes..well thats another matter, again talk to the Mrs.

Manicure???? err .... (I think she does her own)

:-))

Geneva ,ay be expensive.... but theres lots to compensate... like all the nice people.
