Opening a Bank Accounts for Americans, does it even make sense?

My mother recently died and left some money (100K) for my 5 yr old son. I was considering opening a savings account for him here. I am an American and so is he.


But there are only a few banks that will even take Americans and I am told it is better not to attract attention to yourself by showing up on the IRS radar as someone who has money in Switzerland.


I would like peoples' comments.


My son is obviously a minor but I assume the IRS will still be interested.  I am told people with money in Switzerland are almost always audited by the IRS.
