I find akward, if not somewhat rude, that people organizing events have locked profiles. How would I know if I want to join if I do not know the organizer at all? Yes I know, I could get in touch "hey, nice event, who are you, how old are you, etc" but no... I really don't feel like it.

You find it too much trouble to ask someone some personal questions. Never the less you do take the time to complain here. I don't see why someone should put time in giving you a decent answer.

I agree with Free.
Personally, I would find it strange to rsvp to an activity / event organized by someone with a private/locked profile.
If you're taking the time to organize something and asking people to join you - why not let them see some details about you?
But, as David said - activity / event organizers have the right to the same level of privacy as other members, so it's up to them to decide whether or not they want to make their profiles visible.
I'm sure alot of them don't realize that their profiles are locked and/or that this might stop some people from joining their activities, so I think it's a good thing that Free brought this up.

Thomas : Thanks for taking the time to give me a "decent" answer. It was not a complaint, just a remark.
David : The problem is not access, I have never been refused access to any event unless it was full and even then, the organizers were king enough to find an extra seat.
It's just that I find it weird to invite people and not tell them who you are. This being said, you are right, it is their choice not ot reveal their profile, they're entitled to the same level of privacy and it is my choice not to register.
