There seems to be some confusion whether the 2nd January [Berchtoldstag in German] is in fact a public holiday in Canton Geneva or not. The French buses seems not to run on that day. Can someone please elucidate? Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the two replies so far. However, we are actually none the wiser unfortunately.
We need to travel through Geneva from Evian to the airport before 07.00.
On a normal working day, the traffic between the two places is horrific.
We need to know whether it is a "normal" working day or not. Still seems undecided.

Dear Sheila:
I have never known Berchtoldstag to be observed as a public holiday in Geneva. I would also wager that most Genevans and Geneva residents have never even heard of him.
Nevertheless, since the first and second of January 2019 are in the middle of the week, there is a fair chance that traffic will be less congested than usual.
That said, why not phone TCS to ask for their advice?
Best wishes, R.

There's nothing to be confused about. Berchtoldstag is not a holiday in Geneva. It is a public holiday only for these cantons: AG, BE, FR, GL, JU, LU, NE, OW, SH, SO, TG, VD, ZG, ZH.
Since on 2nd of January most people is still on holidays, you might expect less traffic than usual.

It's not a bank holiday in France either (except in Moselle and Alsace). French buses should be running like on a normal day (or, at least like on a normal school holiday day)

Thank you everyone, for your renewed input.
Think the problem here is that when we looked under the SAT website for buses running from Evian, via Thonon to Geneva, the site says "no information for 02/01" which upon reflection must mean that the new timetable has not yet been printed.
Don't worry though, we shall leave our car at the GVA parking and thereby avoid any problems.
Usual chaos crossing the Pont de Mont Blanc then?
