PICKPOCKETS SERIOUS!!!!
Hey, Just letting people know there are a high level of pickpockets operating around the Rue de Mont Blanc area, around where McDonalds and Starbucks are, becareful if walking around there, it extends to around the Brasseurs areas on Rue de Lausanne.

If any one knows any other areas, can you please post, gotta look out for each other!

I've been here 4 months and been picked twice, fortunately noticed and challenged, and haven't lost anything. I hope others haven't been unfortunate enough to lose anything.

well you should probably be alert around any major train station. A friend of mine saw right in front of him on an escaltor a pickpocket attempting to rob from the person in front. My friend kicked this guy and no robbery took place. The person being robbed had no idea (probably still). Coming off the escalator my friend was then cornered by 3 other people clearly working with the one my friend kicked. A lot of verbal ensued with my friend then pushing through them and saying he was calling the police. One of them kicked him and then they all disappeared.
So beware!!

Watch out indeed. Particularly if there is someone is standing close to you...dancing/distracting your friends and you in any way.

Here is the blueprint of how I became a victim - Last Friday, at the Glocals Oscar event, I was standing outside the club. Talking with two Glocalers out on the street - it was too loud to talk inside. Two guys came over asking for cigarette and light. We don't smoke. Couldn't help them. Instead of leaving, one of the strangers came and stood close to me; and, started jumping and dancing around. This is strange, I thought. He kept jumping around and waiving his hands and doing his thing for quite a while. This was distracting to all three of us. The two strangers then left.

I felt there was something wrong. It just didn't feel right. I instinctively checked my wallet and iPhone. My iPhone was missing. The dancer had stolen it from my belt. The strangers were about 75 meters from us now, walking away into the darkness. I ran across the street and caught up with the guys. Stopped them. Looked into the dancer's eye and said - Give my phone back. He immediately returned it. I returned to my fellow Glocalers. I felt upset with the attempt to victimize me. Spoiled my evening and enthusiasm to meet new people that night.

Suggestion... watch out of distractions. If someone strange is acting weird, consider walking away from him or her, as soon as you can.

Live and let live.

is a hot spot for pickpockets as well. Last year I was with a friend who had her wallet stolen out of her purse which she had set on the floor. We went to the security office which had recorded the theft on tape. Although my friend's money was stolen, her identification was found. People who have their wallet stolen might want to check the Geneva lost and found office. Be prepared to pay a fee to get your goods returned if they are there.

where is the geneva lost & found??

once I saw a young guy dashing down the road in front of the Mandarin hotel along the lake, and a girl chasing after her purse. I'm also told never to walk through the parks after dark, especially the small one along Quai de Seujet (in between Hotel Mandarin & the club Platinum).
another Glocal member was recently robbed at the Kampinski hotel parking lot. and yesterday, i was at the Palexpo and noticed the lighting in the parking lot was so dark that if it were middle of the night it'd be frightfully eerie. so be careful when parking there.

I had a similar experience on New Year's Eve near to the Jardin Anglais. Two young guys approached a group of 4 of us as we were walking, one of them carrying on as if mentally unbalanced and trying to be friendly. It became fairly clear after a while that this was aimed at distracting our attention althought the attempt was unsuccesful.
