People from London, please HELP!!!

Hi,

I'm writing this post on behalf of my younger sister who is doing a year in London after being accepted in the dance school called "The Place" http://www.theplace.org.uk. She is living with roommates right now but as she is only 18, she really misses living in a family and also the rent she is paying right now is above budget for her, so she is looking for a family who would be willing to let her stay with them in exchange for a small rent and/or help with cleaning, cooking, and some baby-sitting. She is really good with kids so please if you know anyone who could be interested, please contact me via private message.

Any ideas on what she could do to find a host family by herself are welcome too! Life away from us (her family) is quite hard for her so it is quite urgent that she find a nice host family!

Thanks to all!

We are originally from a pleasant and green area of London but before going into helping you find a position for your sister, can you explain why you are seemingly English speaking and posting on a Geneva website. Are you, her family, in Europe?

My sister and I are Japanese and German but born and raised in Geneva. Since I am a Glocals member, I thought that I could ask around for some help because my sister has been applying for au pair jobs but obviously since she goes to school she isn't available enough for the families that she contacted. She was back here over the holidays and seeing her leave this morning made me want to help her because she has been looking for a host family for almost 2 month without any success.

I have written to my daughter-in-law in the meantime to see if she knows anyone in in her Freundenkreis who would need someone to live in part-time and help with children. As soon as she replies, I will send you a message but it may not be today. I'll do what I can to help.

Dear Noemi,

I lived for 2 years in London and I have found always useful the website Gumtree. There are always a lot of announcements requesting nannies living in family:

http://www.gumtree.com/live-in-nanny-jobs/london

If she is looking instead for a cheaper room, she can have a look to the following websites:

http://www.spareroom.co.uk/

http://uk.easyroommate.com/

http://www.gumtree.com/flatshare/london

I hope she will find soon a nice place where to live... Good luck!

Cheers, Maurizio

In answer to my question to our DIL if she happens to know anyone needing an aupair, she has replied

I don't I'm afraid. Not that many people are keen to have anyone living with them and also they just don't have the space really.
I'll let you know if I hear of anything,

Perhaps she will hear something when taking her little girl to school? We shall contact you further if this is the case.

She might want to look into one of the services that exchange housing for assiting the elderly such as:

http://homeshare.org/faq/

http://www.homesharelondon.com/

there is another similar service as well - which I can not remember the name of right now, if I do I will re post

there are also private student halls:

http://housing.london.ac.uk/cms/links-to-registered-private-halls-of-residence/

or charitable student hostels to consider (see http://www.housing.london.ac.uk/cms/)

Ok, that's too bad but thank you for your effort.
