Places to go hiking around Geneva (for beginner to intermediate)

Hi all,

I’m looking for a good place around Geneva (but it can be in nearby France or
Nyon) to go hiking.  In particular I’m
looking for something that a beginner to intermediate hiker can do.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Nancy :)

Try the Saleve in france - go to the Veyrier douane then its a 5 min walk across to the foot. Theres a guy that goes every sunday and meets at the bus stop before the douane I think its about 9.30/10am?
Great apple pie when you reach the top!

I wonder whether the Salève might be a bit difficult for a beginner.  Although I haven't done it myself, I believe it involves going up about 800 metres and is quite steep - but you can come back down using the cable car.

Some relatively easy and rewarding hikes that I have done recently are the Cascade d'Angon, near Annecy, and La Dôle and La Barillette in the Jura.  This second one can be done as a circuit starting and ending at the Chalet de la Dôle - it has some short steep sections up and down, and quite a lot of relatively flat parts along a ridge with stunning views on a clear day.

A third but slightly more demanding hike, but stillintermediate, is the Pic des Mémises in Haute Savoie, with stunning views over the lake from Montreux to Geneva.  The best route does involve a 12 m ladder up a cliff and will take you from and back to the car park in a figure of 8.

For these 3 hikes you do need a car but they can be reached in less than an hour from Geneva.

Let me know if you want more details.
