i am not a teacher but i am brazilian so, be aware to find a brazilian portuguese teacher. brazilian portuguese accent/wording might be really different from  portugal's.

@ Teca - Yeah I agree. Brazilian Portuguese would be more ideal but seeing as I coudln't find anything on Google I thought I shouldnt be too fussy. Besides, I guess even Brazilian Portuguese varies signifigantly across the country...if you know or hear of any Brazilian teachers please let me know. Thank you!

I m a Portuguese teacher(Portuguese-Portugal) i give portuguese lessons to people that need to learn Portuguese usually in a fast and little time so that they can make at least a small conversation really fast. I make normal classes with all the grammar and exercises so that people can understand it and put it to practice without beeing embaressed when talking.(without mistakes)Most of the classes are oral so that you can get used to the sound of words and get used to talk well and fast.Unfortenly for the moment i can only make lessons by net skype or msn because my daily programme is totally full but in some months maybe we can make one to one.I have made many classes this way during many years and people were allways very comfortable with it and learned well portuguese so if you are interested just send me a message here and i ll be more than happy to help you.

Portuguese of Portugal and portuguese of Brazil its different only on the accent but i m sure that every brazilian you can meet and talk to, understand you 100 per cent.The accent since you are gonna live there you can get it in  some few months.

Thank you so much for the kind offer. I think my preference is really to have either class room lessons or one to one, but face to face regardless. However if I am still looking in future months, I will contact you to see if your diary has cleared up a little. You certainly sound very busy, which is a good sign for a teacher so I will let you know how I get on.

I would also be interested in finding a Portuguese class around here... I took Portuguese for a few years in college but for multiple reasons it's been rapidly deteriorating. I'd like to re-learn it and resurrect my Portuguese skills! Hopefully something turns up. Keep me posted :)

Cheers Robi - A couple of teachers who teach one on one have been in touch so I think I will give that a go first, then as my level improves I think I will look to learn at a school as well as continue private lessons. You're the second person to suggest Ecole-Club Migros so it must be a good tip! Thanks!

Well, I'm not a teacher, but I'm a brazilian based in Geneva and since that my favorite subject at school was portuguese I would say that I know my language very well plus I'm patiente and like teaching or trying at least... =)

So maybe I could help you guys in case of you do not find a official teacher: we could make a test and you let me know what do you think ... I'm normally free from Tuesday to Friday after 7 pm and from Saturday to Monday all day.

I've never heard of raizes but may check it out one day. For now i've got my lessons covered.

I have a private teacher who is really good as she was an english teacher in Brazil. In addition to that, i've listened to all 3 Pimsular audio courses and I purchased a grammar book from this teacher: http://www.sonia-portuguese.com/

Her site and book is really good so I also purchased her CD Rom and those lessons have been really helpful so far as well. Check them out, and good luck.

I am Australian but lived in Sao Paulo from January to May, and I speak intermediate Brazilian Portuguese. I am mostly looking for some consersation and writing practice, plus some grammar practice, perhaps 1 hour twice a week?
