Postfinance: How Much Can Be Withdrawn at Counter w/out Photo Identification?

http://www.postfinance.ch/content/dam/pf/de/doc/prod/card/pfcard_sec_en.pdf

On a previous thread, someone posted that her friend had her postfinance card stolen, along with her pin number.  Before she became aware of the loss, the thieves had already gone to a post office counter and had withdrawn a substantial amount of money, without photo identification.

Two weeks ago,  I asked a postfinance teller the maximum amount one is able to withdraw with card and pin-- at the counter -- but without photo id.  She confirmed to me that the amount is 5,000 swiss francs.

So, yes, if a thief has your pin and your card, they can get a maximum of 5,000 chf  from your account without any id.

I asked whether there was any way to limit this amount and was told no. She just said to inform postfinance as soon as you are aware of the theft....

Blocking number:

I can't believe that people may be so irrsponsible (read: stupid) and carry their PIN code WITH the card.....

No comment, or maybe: for the person who get his card stolen with the pin: GOOD FOR YOU!

That will teach you to be more responsible, next time it's going to be your credit card and result may be worse.

Be carefull with your stuff guys....!!

No, it's not always the case that this is how it happens. In fact, banks and post office ATMs have installed side guards to keypads to keep intrusive eyes away. In other cases, someone may be closer to you in the store line than you may realize or right across from you in line.

Not everyone who gets their card and pin stolen is stupid. Some thieves are quite clever...
