I have Sky TV and I have a problem receiving ITV in the evenings. Does anyone have a similar problem? During the day the signal is good.
Thank you.

i have a satellite system on my terrace and have no problem with itv channels. it could be so many things.
you say in the day the signal is good ( i suppose you're talking about the two signal bars
when you check the system set up ) how strong is the itv signal in the day time compared to bbc for example? and what is the comparison at night?
it may be the dish alignment is slightly off.

Thank you Epicure. Atleast now I even know how to go to "system set up". There seems to be no difference in signal strength beween the ITV channels, BBC and G.O.L.D.I suppose I will have to call HAS Europe as I would not know how to adjust the dish.
Once again thank you.

well, that probably isn't the problem, as bbc and itv are on the same satellite so if you get the same signal strength on both channels in the day time it can't be that. so in the evening, what is the signal and quality indication of both. is bbc at the same level as in the daytime?

Thank you all for your help.
@Justdoit-Thank you, but the Swisscom channels do not really meet my tv needs. Sky free channels are a better option for me.
@temposamy- I have two boxes and the problem is the same with both of them.
@epicure-
Actually it seems this problem affects a few other channels including E4, BBC1 and Hallmark.. I have since contacted HAS Europe and they say the problem could be that the Dish has moved(my dish is on the balcony) and the only solution they could give me was to pay Euro100 for them to send an engineer to look at the satellite dish. I think that is completely crazy.
I would rather cancel my subscription and get just the free channels if I can find someone to adjust the dish for me.

As Epicure says BBC and ITV are on the same satellite. They are not however on the same transponder on the satellite. In fact it is possible to be able to watch BBC 1 and 2 but not 3, 4 or FIVE and similarly with ITV.
This is because the transponders have different power outputs and may or may not be concentrating on the south eastern beam. Don't forget that here in CH we are getting to the outer fringes of Astra 2D footprint - see http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/astra2d.html or http://www.ses-astra.com/medialib/content/Footprint_Graphics/Footprint_Graphics_28.2_East/0_astra_2D_north_M.jpg
With digital TV, unlike analogue TV, the signal is generally either there or it is not. You do not get noisy images like fringe reception of analogue TV. Atmospheric conditions play a part as well, cloud and bad weather generally affects propagation at these frequencies. So the time of day could influence your reception.
It is possible sometimes to find the same channel, for example ITV 1, but directed to say Midlands rather than East or South or Channel Islands on another transponder.
The page at http://www.lyngsat.com/astra2d.html will give you the technical data to manually input the channel data if your search facility does not work.
I had to mix and match a bit to get all the BBC and ITV channels in Neuheim ZG.

i don't think your dish moved, because you checked the signal strength during the day, and they were the same. it might be a problem with the polarity switching (vertical horizontal ) on your LNB which is on the front of your dish. as bbc is vertical and itv is horizontal, this is easy to fix. as a new LNB costs about 25 sfr. if your dish is on your balcony then it it easy to get to and you can change the LNB yourself. you just need a screwdriver to undo the 2 screws which hold it in place (take care not to move the dish in the slightest as this will change the alignment) replace the LNB by disconnecting the white coaxial cable and re connecting it and then re mounting it on the dish. this should fix the problem. i'm certain it is a faulty transistor in the LNB vert/horiz switch. the shop should have been able to diagnose this problem over the phone, as it is quite obvious.
cheers,
Epicure (roger)

And just to add to Roger's post. If you do move the dish a little, you can buy (relatively cheaply) a signal meter to put in the line and readjust the dish position. Have a look at
http://www.satonline.ch/shopping/kabel_zubehoer/messgeraete
I bought the "14750" beastie (Fr19.90) and it does me quite fine to line up the antenna for 2D.
Take note of the position of the LNB before you change it, you can move it in and out a bit as well as rotate it. Again the measuring beastie helps.
For final adjustment you can use antenna setup menu built into your sat receiver.

Is it difficult getting sky set up out in Geneva?
nothing is dificult....it just costs money :-)
am a technician thou what can i help for you ... am not gonna ask u same price what they did its madness ..... but i know surely the problem is in the decoder . is ur second one is a simple receiver or a decoder ... and to let u know i can come and check it, even don cancel your contract its might be the dish is too small for that there are two satellites in the same degree Eurobird 28.2 E and Astra2 28.2 E this could slightly affect coz it would give you same signal of same freq. but you got to know which satellite r u using
to know this check out lyngsat.com or dishpointer.com just incase call me for more INFO

Once again thank you all for your advice. The problem is now solved. As Epicure suggested, all I needed to do was replace the LNB(which I didnt even know what it was) and a friend has this morning done so.
@ Anna-thank you for the info on Zattoo. Now I do not have to miss my daily dose of Coronation Street and Emmerdale if I am working late:-)
@ Temposamy-Thank you for your offer. I have taken note of your contact details should I need assistance in the future.
@ Justdoit-I have had Sky Tv for 9 years now and this is the first time I encounter this problem.I bought my first box at Jims Supermarket in St.Genis and the secondone in Glocals classifieds.
If I did not already have these boxe maybe I would consider having Swisscom TV, but Sky has about 240 free-to-air channels(http://www.sky.com/shop/tv/free-to-air-channels/ ), including 15 Christian channels(which are important for me). I also like their fitness channels.
@Martin-Thank you too for your help.I checked the link you gave me and I found it too difficult to understand-it appeared all Greek to me:-)

The English package on Swisscom TV does not meet everyone's needs. I thought of changing from Naxoo to Swisscom TV but the English package does not include two Eurosport channels provided by Naxoo. I am a keen tennis fan and like the English commentators on Eurosport UK and International 1 and 2....

hello again,
i'm pleased that you got it sorted. and yes, once you were able to give me the info i requested, the problem was pretty clear. ( ok, i've been a sat technician and had my own sat installation service in switzerland for 24 yrs -since 1986...so i should be able to know this stuff :-)
pls note that the blue win tv costs you a monthly rate and the box is never yours! whereas your sky box is well amortised by now :-)
and yes, you can watch channels on the pc, but the quality is nowhere near as good as on satellite.
also, itv 1 is now broadcasting in HD just like BBC :-)
cheers,
roger
