Prostitutes in Paquis
Hey folks

Just wondering what the deal is with all the prostitutes in the Paquis area.

Is prostitution legal in Geneva, or do the authorities just overlook it?

Oded

Stef_granny told me that he was stopped by the cops 3 times in Paquis while using the services of local prostituts, and every time the cops let him go. so I guess it's legal.

seriously speaking, i think it really is legal in Switzerland, as long as there's no pimping and no agressive marketing techniques. I'd be surprised if it's not legal, cos prostitution in Geneva is very in-the-open.

It's right next to my office, ideal if you want check who's working that day ,and what the weather is like outside by the amount of clothing worn by the girls (A term I use loosely) . One of the guys in the office took a picture of 3 post office bikes parked outside one of the "shops" and it soon did the rounds of the internet and appeared in Le Matin, so postal worker activities are restricted at lunchtimes.

1) Prostitution is a perfectly legal activity in Switzerland, as mike007 explained well
2) Procuring as such has been removed from the penal code some years ago, so it’s legal to be a pimp, but under very strict conditions (see below). That’s why some of the biggest brothels in Europe are to be found in the german part of Switzerland and some big escort agencies with a lot of activities in France are based in Geneva. A boss of one of them was arrested last year in France for procuring prostitutes (I think it was during Festival de Cannes). If he had stayed this side of the border, he would have had no problem.
3) What is illegal is:
-to encourage an under age person to prostitue her(him)self
-to exploit somebody’s dependency (for example to drugs) to encouraged her/him to prostitues her(him)self with a view of gaining money from her/his activity
-to limit a prositutes’s freedom by controlling (“surveiller”) her/him or imposing her/him the place, the time, the frequency or other conditions
-to maintain somebody in prostitution.
In the most serious cases, it can lead to up to 10 years in jail.
(art. 195 swiss penal code, see french version on http://www.admin.ch/ch/f/rs/311_0/a195.html)

Thanks for the replies guys.

So its legal but with some provisions, and postal workers are not allowed to partake during their lunch hour :-)

Im surprized, because I thought that Geneva was pretty strict and conservative, but I guess they are liberal when it comes to some things.

Thanks again

Oded

Rue Etienne-Dumont used to be rue des Belles-Filles
Rue Francois-Diday used to be rue du Vieux-Bordel
Rue Chausse-coq used to be rue Chausse-Con

However, during some period of time, pimps and Madams were banished from the city (after a good drubbing).

Ho-nni soit qui mal y pense...
