Hello,
We are looking into the possibility of moving to Switzerland for work in March. My family (wife and three daughters) will be arriving in April. We are looking at accommodation around the Nyon/Gland area.
The employment package covers international schools for children up until they turn 18. My oldest daughter is currently 17 and finishing Year 10 in Australia. She was adopted at age 9 and had a delayed start to her schooling. She currently does not speak any French. We do not have the financial ability to place her in an international school and wanted to understand what support is available for new school students coming from overseas who only speak English at this age group.
We are open to flexible and alternate learning options and understand the challenges here having moved country a few times already over the past 10 years. They key thing for us is language support and developing a social network. Vocational and academic pathways will come in time, but this isnt a priority. Given that she is 17 and already older for a year 10 student, what flexibility is there within the school system for her to stay behind so she can build up her language skills before progressing into further education/year levels. In the Australian school system she would have two more years of required schooling so they she can receive her high school certificate.
Does anyone know what type of arrival and language support is offered for this age group and any schools that provide this?
Thanks in advance,
Matt
