Hello, a friend who is moving to Geneva would like to buy a Bernese mountain dog. Does anyone know a breeder they can recommend? Are there any Berner rescue organizations? Do you know approximately how much a pup would cost from a breeder? I am familiar with the microchip costs, the dog training costs, annual vaccinations, etc. But since we brought our dog with us, I have no idea how much it costs to buy one here. Thank you!

Educated guess (after a couple of google searches): 1000-2000 CHF.

The 2010 Show is October 16-17th. in Lausanne
A large number of Bernese breeders will be there. As most of them are Swiss German, you should take a German or Swiss German speaking friend with you if you want to communicate with them.
My guess (depending on the breeder) would be that pricing will be more in the CHF 2'000 - 2'500 range.
Remember to buy health insurance. It is available in CH.

Correct. It is "the" dog show in Switzerland. Lots of different breeds.
You would want to get the detailed schedule when it comes out so you can see the judging of the specific breed that interests you. That way, you can see all of the dogs being presented and can contact the breeders.
