Question/advice -problem roommate.
I am a foreign student in Nyon.

I'm having some serious concerns with my roommate, and owner of the flat, I'm not sure what my rights are, or really where to get help.

Basically, since I moved in in March, I have gradually started to experience problems here. I use a wheelchair, and have an assistance dog, and am here short term, so I cannot move easily.

The issues: When I moved in he mentioned that he planned to sell the apartment at the end of the year, but since has moved the date up, which means he regularly has apartment viewings scheduled. This is disruptive to my life and privacy, and not what I signed up for, though when compared to the other issues, is relatively minor.

My roommate did not disclose that he smokes and has a frequent drinking problem. On the night of 6/04/2016 he stayed up past Midnight, loudly talking with a friend in the living room, while very very drunk, despite my requests for quiet. My volunteer work at the UN on behalf of an NGO was affected, and when I explained the next day that this caused me harm, he became argumentative and verbally aggressive. I regularly have to avoid our shared space in the evening because he is drunk.

I keep my door closed, and expect privacy, but he has regularly come into my room with out permission, both when I'm home, and when I'm not.

He frequently becomes argumentative, and attempts to talk with me through my closed door.

I rented the room here specifically because there are outdoor spaces for my assistance dog to safely pee. He spread poison on the grass outside with no prior notice to me, effectively putting my assistance dog at medical risk.

He recently has become even more harassing, and is complaining of some undefined odor coming from my room, for which he is now threatening to have a cleaning company enter my room without my permission to fix, on Monday of next week. This seems to be a pattern of threats and invasion of my privacy.

As you can tell, this is not a livable situation. I had originally intended to stay here until August, but I gave notice to leave at the end of May, the earliest our contract allowed. However, if my basic privacy, and my dog's health are at jeopardy, than I may need to break that contract.

My questions are:

Also, do I have a right to privacy under Swiss law? Can he legally allow a cleaning company into my room without my permission? And do I have a right to use of the outdoor space for my dog, as originally agreed?

May I break our rental contract in this situation? I don't have anywhere to go, and plan to be out of the country from late May until September when I return for classes, but I may not be able to cope with 6 more weeks of this.
I feel like I may be receiving this outlandish behavior because I'm not Swiss, and so he feels there is no repercussion, and also because I'm disabled, and so moving out quickly is hard for me.

You should contact ASLOCA as soon as possible. They'll inform you of your rights. It is clear that your roommate is behaving in an abusive way and possibly even broke the law.

The phone number of ASLOCA is 022 361 32 42.  You can call them on Monday 8h15–10h15, Tuesday and Thursday 8h15–10h15 et 15h00–17h00 to schedule an appointment at their office in Nyon which is in Ch. des Plantaz 13a. Not sure whether they speak English, in case have someone that speaks French call them for you. Remember to bring all your papers.

You'll have just to pay a small annual fee of 70 CHF.

Unfortunately, abusive behavior towards tenants is extremely common in Switzerland but this isn't a reason to fight against it -- quite the opposite. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about this Altaira.

I think ASLOCA is the best solution and also start lookinf for something better. Maybe living with a family or somthing would be a better option.

Many of the ASLOCA lawyers speak English.
