Quitting a job with chomage

Hi there

I was wondering whether anyone has experience of quitting a job in Switzerland and still being able to receive chomage right away. I know that they require extenuating circumstances for you to be able to receive the benefits, i.e. something akin to being declared no longer able to work by your doctor.

Has anyone resigned and been able to negotiate with the chomage to still receive benefits? What did you do and what reasons did you give?

I ask as am in a difficult situation where I would like to leave my job but cannot really do so if I have to be penalized by chomage.

All info, experience and tips welcome!

Thanks

inspite of unfair treatment and often non compliance with your work contract by your employer, swiss unemplyment law requires you to have another employment before quiting your present job. if not you can be penalised up to 30 work days of chomage benefits. so, unless you can have your employer fire you, you should look for a new job first.

A friend has done this, whill still getting Chomage she her days were severly impacted, I belive she lost 9 months of her 2 year overall Chomage period. With the way the market is today it would be far wiser to still in your job and find another. It is ALOT easier to get a job with a job.

How long have you been with this employer? 18 months is a minimum I think that you should have in order to get the chomage. Get yourself fired. Make sure that you have proof of research of new job, chomage will ask for it.

I think you will have to lose some days if you are the one who resigns. Try and get yourself fired.

Try to get yourself fired? People are you crazy? Geneva is small. Very small. If you do something stupid there is a fair chance it will bite you back. If you resign I think you lose 1 to 3 month of chomage depending on circumstances. Plus to receive chomage you have to prove you are actually looking for a job. Don' t try to abuse the system as there are controls and if caught they take it very seriously, and rightly so. Plus getting unfair advantage of the system means you are stealing from the other workers. Which is unfair and dishonest. Anyway ask ti the office of chomage or to a union like UNIA what are your chances....they are really helpful.and play by tge rules.
