RUGBY!!!

So I have recently discovered my love for rugby... Obviously, not the biggest fan base for this sport in the USA so I never really watched a match.  I got to say I love what I am seeing! Like American football but more violentWink

I saw a match last week where the guys eyeball popped out and he just picked it up and blew it off and stuck it back in his eye socket lol.. AWSOME!

Here is my dilema...where I come from eveyone has "their" team! For example, the NY Mets are my baseball team although they suck I still support them every shity season! I need help... Who should my loyalties lie with? The Irish seem pretty bad ass as well as the British... Or do I go another route and support Italy(mother is Italian) Im torn here.. suggestions?!?

Hi Drew, Sixnations is done now, so that means no international games for a while in the noerthern hemisphere. Now it's the turn of the major leagues. Biggest being the Heineken cup. I would say just watch a few games and wait until you get a feeling on a team.

http://www.ercrugby.com/eng/heinekencup/

http://www.ercrugby.com/eng/amlinchallengecup/index.php

Obviously I would be a fan of my home province, munsterrugby.ie and of course the Irish.

Also I know CERN has a rugby club too, so maybe have a look around you might get to see a game upclose albeit amateur.

Enjoy.

I'm supporting France but it's true that Italy are improving their level match by match! Being part of the 6 Nations really made them play much better.

They even won against us last year... Luckily we took our revenge this year ;)

Its coming to the end of the season here in Europe, but the southern hemisphere rugby will start soon, ie Sth Africa, NZ, Oz etc, plus you have the autumn tours to look forward to when the likes of Ireland Wales and England (pah) tour the giants from below.

In the meantime, if you're looking for other exciting sports to watch, you may try and look at Irish Hurling... its described as a mix between hockey and murder.

Hi Drew,

Just picked up on this now and feel obliged to add...

The simple fact is that Northern Hemisphere rugby has nothing on that played in the South. Australia, New Zealand and South Africa dominate the sport and generally play a more intense and expansive game (the NH exception is maybe France who can always be relied on to be unreliable). The same french team could beat New Zealand and lose to Tonga in the space of a week...

The SH internationals won't start until June, but if you're developing a taste for the sport then you should definietly check out the SuperXV (superXV.com) which is easily the most exciting competition in the world. It pits fifteen teams from the three SH giants against each other every weekend, so if you have a hangover there is really no reason to move off the sofa...

Take a look at the highlights from last year, but in fairness you see the same quality every single week. Emphasis in this competition is on running the ball and scoring tries which makes for excellent entertainment. Nothing like it anywhere else!

got to agree with Douglas here - as a rugby man from Crusader/Highlander (super 15 teams in case you are wondering) country in NZ, I would say the 6 nations would be the most boring, kick dominated and so lacking in imagination competition I have come across. I pity the Irish on their tour to NZ coming up - lambs to the slaughter methinks....

However much I would like to say otherwise Jeff, I think I will have to agree with you on the Irish chances in NZ... the gap has widened recently between NH and SH rugby... with perhaps the exception of Wales, who are playing some good rugby recently, and deserved winners IMHO of the 6 nations.

The NH teams are all inexperienced, now that many of the old guard have retired, contrary to the SH teams who have some very inspired youth making their caps.
