I just realised my California drivers license expired yesterday. Does anyone know how to go about renewing it? I looked online and as I am here my address has changed, so I cannot renew online and as it is less than 70 days before expiration, I cannot do it by mail either. I have a CH drivers license but wanted to keep my CA one as well if possible.

I have my old address but that is not valid anymore. If needed I could use my brother's address.

My understanding is that in order to renew a license, you must have a valid address in that state. Do you still have a mailing address in California? If not, I think you will have to use your brother's address, if you want to renew your California license.

Take a peek at FTB pub 1031. You might not want that California license after all. CA FTB is pure concentrated evil.

A very solid point Richard. I guess the question is: does a mailing address and driver's license constitute residency in CA? From what that document reads - I would have to say yes.
I guess she'll have to determine just how important it is to have that license.

You might consider "moving" to a state with no income tax (like Florida). Any relatives living there?
