Interesting, indeed. Whilst i was working on the Red light district, , and as a marketing stunt, a guy who I used for promotion was a male prostitute/gigolo. I put him in one of the windows for a day in AMsterdam, which caused an uproar. not amongst the girls who were queuing to use his services, but amongst the girls who worked there. Because it was attracting far more attention than they liked. Male prostitutes , tend to keep things very discreet, and advertise there services in various magazines only. There wasnt a single one who was trafficked coerced, or forced in anyway to work there. In fact some were there with there husbands, and simply earning money to buy a house, some were students who were earning money to pay there college fees, some were runaways , trying to earn enough to live on, some of them actually enjoyed working there and doing what they do simply because they could and were having fun and earning money. Some were hard nosed, and treated the men like meat, some were soft and fell in love with thier clients, Some were illigal immigrants, who came to Amsterdam because of the easy money.All different perspectives all different lives.. all with the same common denominator earning money.. of thier own free will.

My issue with the idea is that it will help push girls into prostitution.   Classic slippery slope argument!

Real prostitutes would not be interested in doing the café “one hour for 20 Euro’s” idea however young “naïve” girls may be.  Some guys, originally content with the once a week coffee idea will start wanting more contact with the girl and will start asking her for more.  The girl is left with two choices; either walk out and leave her coffee unfinished or see what is her market value, and accept/deny his proposal.

If the girl accepted payment for sex the first time, the next café session of “one hour for 20 Euro’s” will be different for all, including the guy.  The girl will have little concern about whether she wants to drink tea or coffee, but only about how much he will pay…

Not sure this will alleviate your fears, but it might at least make you think twice about using "slippery slope" as a valid argument...

To better explain where the flaw is... a girl could just as easily go on a series of dates with a guy she met.  At each date he buys her dinner or coffee and after a while presents.  Eventually he offers her money for sex, "The girl is left with two choices; either walk out and leave her coffee unfinished or see what is her market value, and accept/deny his proposal."

Therefore, girls should never ever allow guys to buy them dinner or coffee.  Or perhaps even go on dates.  Because it is a slippery slope.  

There is a definitive line between accepting money for sex and not accepting money for sex.  And as long as to do so is a clearly defined choice without coercion, it is legal and can serve a positive purpose in society.

There is also the alternative argument...  a girl goes on a 20 euro an hour date with a guy, fancy him like mad , end up in bed with him, find out hes an amazing lover ... and coerce him into marriage... and all the poor guy wanted was some company for the night and for 20 euros found himself chained to a bed ..

Lets say they can handle 2 customers an hour for 6 hrs long= 12

For a blowjob u pay 50 and sex 50 upto 75 euro.

12x 60 (average) = 720 - 250 (rent) = 470

Of this 470 they will pay 50% tax over their income of 720 euro= 470 - 360

So before tax it was kind of fun, now it should leave them with a little over 100 euro a day...

I must admit that I only had time to quickly read the first 30 or so and the last few and it's pretty conclusive that the men on here, on the whole, are very 'relaxed' about the whole thing - maybe because they know how men think. On the other hand, the overwhelming majority of the women on here are not - almost as if they have, up until now, been in total denial over prostitution. As if it's something they've heard of but never actually believed existed.

I too have been to Amsterdam. I've seen men go in and out of the 'offices'. Some were ugly and some were quite normal. I'm sure one of them actually only had one head. There are many people in many jobs of many sexes that are in miserable, unpleasant jobs that they would rather not be in - sewer cleaners, labourers, factory workers, lawyers, human statues - who may all wish to be doing something else but, for one reason are another, see no way out of their predicament. The only difference with prostitutes is that, for some reason, their profession, chosen or otherwise, is deemed socially unacceptable, forcing them underground and rely on pimps and madams and subjecting them to unacceptable treatment both by those that profess to protect them and those that wish to use their services.

I would argue that by demeaning their profession and taking what must be considered a rather condescending pity on them, and thereby adding to their social unacceptability, that this makes their lives worse, not better.

If prostitution were perfectly legal everywhere, and were accepted by everyone as an honest profession, there would be no shame forcing them to hide their services but instead to advertise themselves as escorts and masseurs. Legitamising the whole profession would make their lives better and safer.

I’m all for serial monogamy, meaning if you find out that a relation doesn’t work anymore and you’re not in love enough to be faithful, you work it out and go each your way.

What I said in my first posting was absolutely correct and is the reason why prostitution has always been and will always be. To try to eradicate it is simply not possible.

there is some truth in what you say, however there are married men I know who would suggest that visiting tart is preferable to an affair... there is less emotional attachment to a tart, whereas an affair often involves much more intimate things. For a woman, I dont know which would be harder to bear... knowing her husband had carnal knowledge of a tart (with all the risks that involves) or had an affair where there is a huge likelyhood that there was use of the "L" word and presents and probably very intimate acts of sex that one may not do with a tart.

Both are pretty much as bad as the other for the wife to bear....and i dont think you can admit to being "happily" married and admit to either of the above...

infidelity is infidelity, whether its with a tart or the neighbour....

except protitution has been with us from the dark ages, and will be forever... its a service people pay for.... and there are needs that need servicing... the point is to clean up the business and reduce the risk to women...  but its an impossible task getting the mafia out of that business.

Sexual predators Mohammed Liaqat and Abid Saddique were caught on CCTV as they drove around Derby stopping girls on the street.

Some teenagers did not take the bait but others swapped mobile phone numbers and were then bombarded with texts.

"They'd take you out, buy you ice creams, take you out for a lovely meal," according to one victim, who was enticed to meet up and then raped.

She said she was targeted because she told them she came from a broken home.

"They ask you certain questions like 'who do you live with?' and they're getting to know what kind of protection you've got, what kind of safety you've got, who's going to stick up for you if they do anything.

"They actually take advantage of the fact that no-one does care about you really.

"They make you feel as if they're on your side and that you are in a real relationship and they just abuse any feelings of love and caring about people."

Some victims were abused during parties held at houses in Derby

Liaqat and his friend Saddique have been found guilty of a string of sex offences, including rape, which took place in cars and at the homes of their friends.

Seven other men have been convicted during three trials, the outcome of which could only be revealed following the final verdicts.

Liaqat, one of the ringleaders, plied his victims with drink or drugs.

At one Derby address, several victims were invited to parties and then pressured into sex, sometimes with several partners.

One teenager described a sexual assault which involved at least eight men.

If the teenagers refused the men's advances, they were threatened. Two were threatened with hammers and another was locked up, held prisoner and then raped.

Detectives collected numerous DNA samples from several crime scenes. Twenty seven girls eventually came forward to say they had been victims.

Many of them had had previous contact with Derby City's social services, and two were still in care at the time of the offences.

Liaqat, seen buying vodka at a petrol station, plied his victims with drink and drugs

Det Supt Debbie Platt, who led the investigation, said: "The offenders have followed girls wearing school uniforms on the streets.

"They've driven into school car parks. We were incredibly shocked because we hadn't anticipated the level of offending that was going on.

"It's very difficult to understand their motivation but it's that classic grooming scenario where the adult has control over the child."

The inquiry was prompted by concerns at a children's charity which patrols the streets of Derby. Safe and Sound was set up to stop teenagers being groomed for sex.

The organisation's founder Sheila Taylor said: "I was worried that we'd wind up with children seriously injured, possibly even dead.

"I think it is really widespread - there's 40-plus projects up and down the UK that are dealing with this issue.

"Many of them find young people are seriously damaged."

The victim who agreed to speak told me: "There's part of you that looks at these men like a father figure, as weird as it sounds, because you feel like they're going to keep you safe and they then abuse every part of that."

She added: "I think they're evil. I just cannot understand what has made them so evil."

The gang's youngest victim was only 12, and detectives have praised all the girls who gave evidence in the trials.

They are convinced their bravery has protected countless other teenagers from becoming victims.

I have too done some volunteer work for rape victims. This is a disgusting world and I don't have any respect for men who pay for sex, because regardless to if the woman is selling herself by her own free will or is a sex slave; by buying sex you are creating a demand. And the demand is FAR more than the supply and it only leads to one thing.

I don't think a prostitute would tell her client how miserable she is, that she has a pimp, is beaten up and so on. Or would we pay for a comedy show there the comedy man would only tell us sad and unfunny stories? The purpose is to pay for entertainment. No entertainment means no sale.

First off this thread was started about a somewhat ridiculous rent-a-date service, which yes, is scummy, but I think the convo went entirely down the wrong track. I think this is more like "shit, im meeting some old school friends and I don't wanna look like I haven't found anyone" or you need someone to hang off your arm at a social event.

I think it's ridiculous... but what I also think is ridiculous is that this has kicked off some discussion about the merits and non merits of prostitution and the legality of it.

If you ask me, if you are hunting after Switzerland or Holland for legalizing it then you have blindfolds on. The same way the US is about marijuana. At least by having it legal you have the ability to control it, attempt to assure safety and gain something from it (the people as a whole). 

The problem will not go away unless scumbag men die out (won't happen), and, very sorry, but I doubt for the majority of the girls you see out on the street in plain sight, its not an involuntary gig either. We live in a crappy world in very many ways, that's something everyone needs to come to terms with - from a govt point of view the best way to deal with it is the take the situation goes on and regulate it/find a way to draw benefits from it. Forcing it behind closed doors and into the shadows just makes it worse.
