Rental agreement required for work permit; work permit required for rental aggreement

I'm sure others with superior brains have overcome this puzzle, but I have to admit I am stumped by it. I'm in the process of applying for a work permit (from the US/ as a UK citizen) which requires me to submit a rental contract for a property in Geneva. But it seems in order to rent somewhere I will need (a) to provide proof of my employment contract which is contingent on the work permit and (b) to physically be in Geneva. Any clever ways out of this rabbithole?

Thanks a million!

As a citizen from non European Union nation, you fall under the category of "citoyen d'un pays tiers", basically any non EU citizen; thus you will have to first obtain employment and then your employer will ask for a work permit. Having found a job does not mean that you will necessarîly be granted a work permit.

When I was offered my first job in Switzerland, my futur employer's first request for a work permit was denied as it had not been proven that someone with my specific qualifications could not be found in Switzerland or in Europe. The second request for a permit was granted.

Thus it seems to me that you would be better off renting from a private individuals who will not require a work permit.
