Switzerland and Glocals both have a very diverse population with diverse views. If you get offended by other people's opinions you shouldn't be here. 

Or you can do what I do. I like Glocals because people here are helpful and friendly, and because they know things about Switzerland/Geneva that I don't. I tend to stay away from controversial threads, or at least I don't take them seriously, because I'm not here to have a debate about racism or politics. 

..and that, ladies and gentlemen.. is why using your real name on the internets is almost always a bad idea.

It seems that, people who have a strong voice here, character and are not afraid to speak up, being treated as bullies- it's seriously ridiculous. Those who post treads about bullies and creat the image of being a victim is just pathetic.

I think introducing and enforcing anything close to a 'real name policy' is silly, it would kill what's already here, be a nightmare to police, drive people away etc etc .. 

However.. I do think people should be themselves, be real and write on the forum just as they would talk to people for real. On every forum there are keyboard warriors, often sad little people with nothing better to do than troll or slag people or tell people they are wrong. 

It's a small world, you may well meet the person you helped / threatened / laughed at etc etc.  

Did she say "glocals should" or did she say "IF" that too with capital letters just to make sure you understand she is not "commanding" and just showing a possibility and it's positive consequences, though I agree on the negative ones listed here, I am not sure I will take her post as "SHOULD"

By the way, *one* reason that many people have Chicken photos is because someone 2-3 years ago mentioned that there was or could be a privacy issue regarding non-friends finding your profile. I remember there was some discussion and then a spate of people who immediately changed their photos during/after that discussion.

Interesting to know about the perceived privacy issue.  But with so many chicken photos on profiles, I wonder how many people come to Glocals by accident following a search for pictures of cocks.

I don't see the point in hiding (as you can see). If I post something that offends someone it's usually either a difference of opinion that the other person cannot accept or it's because it's meant in fun but the other person doesn't see the joke. No malice is ever intended and i would never be ashamed of anything i've said. This may be different if i were hiding behind as alias.

No-one should post anything on here that they wouldn't feel comfortable saying face to face.
